Qualcomm unveiled a new 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor at IFA 2024 in Berlin. This debut is set to drive laptop prices down, making for more affordable consumer options.
The new processor has the same architecture as the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite and 10-core Snapdragon X Plus. However, it’s notably weaker graphics-wise. This makes it ideal for those who are looking for a great device on a tighter budget.
The 8-core Snapdragon X Plus offers less CPU cache and less than half the GPU power for gaming and productivity apps. It’s estimated to take a 20% dip below the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite in general CPU-centric tasks.
Oddly enough, it offers the same productivity performance as the 10-core Snapdragon X Plus processors. Overall, the new Snapdragon X Plus option is key to driving down laptop prices further.
Fortunately, laptops equipped with this new offering will launch in the coming days. Devices like the ASUS Vivobook S 15 will cost around USD 899 (~PHP 50,000) with this variant. The Dell Inspiron 14 equipped with the new 8-core processor will be available for the same price as well.
Meanwhile, the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite-powered machines will cost around USD 1,300 (~PHP 73,000). What do you guys think of the news from Qualcomm? Share your thoughts with us below!
