Tesla Cybercab prototype unveiled

The Tesla Cybercab prototype was unveiled by Elon Musk during their “We, Robot” event. Tesla’s new robotaxi is dedicated to self-driving, lacking a steering wheel or pedals.

The vehicle has a futuristic design, with doors that open upward similar to butterfly wings. As for space, it only has enough for two passengers.

Musk noted that autonomous vehicles are expected to be 10-20 times safer in comparison to human-driven vehicles. Further, he mentioned these could cost as low as USD 0.20 per mile. For reference, US city buses cost a dollar per mile.

Tesla is planning to launch autonomous driving in California and Texas by 2025. However, the Cybercab’s production should proceed by 2026, although Musk mentioned it could be as late as 2027.

The concern for Cybercab production remains in the air, as Tesla is still dealing with refining their full self-driving feature (FSD). For context, there have been a number of incidents this year alone that involves their autopilot technology.
