ARM-based Huawei Kirin PC chip reportedly delayed to Q1 2025

Huawei is said to be developing an ARM-based Kirin PC chip with rumors of its release this year.

However, a new tip suggests that the launch has been delayed until Q1 of 2025. Unfortunately, the tipster didn’t mention any further details as to why it was delayed.

The Huawei Kirin PC chip in question rivals the Snapdragon X laptop processors from Qualcomm and is even said to be on par with the latest Apple M3.

If that holds true, Huawei needs a lot of catching up to do, especially in terms of battery life. The latest Snapdragon X processors are built on a 4-nanometer process node, and the Apple M3 is built on 3-nanometer.

For context, the smaller the transistor, the better the power efficiency.

Huawei relies on SMIC as its semiconductor manufacturer, and recent reports point to it being capable of producing 5-nanometer chips.

Adding to that, early reports claim that the Kirin PC chip will also adopt a unified architecture similar to Apple M-Series chips. This architecture includes all the primary parts — such as SoC and DRAM — in one package, improving its memory bandwidth and efficiency.

As of writing, the Chinese giant hasn’t mentioned anything yet about working on a Kirin PC chip.

In another news, Huawei is also said to be cooking a MateBook laptop powered by HarmonyOS in the coming months. Huawei Central predicts that the Kirin PC chip may debut on the said MateBook laptop.
