X (FKA Twitter) has just officially updated the platform’s rules, allowing NSFW content to be presented on the platform.
The platform defines adult content as “any consensually produced and distributed material depicting adult nudity or sexual behavior that is pornographic or intended to cause sexual arousal”.
The updated ruling applies to AI-generated, photographic, or animated content. This is inclusive of cartoons, hentai, or anime. However, users posting said content were asked to adjust their media settings.
NSFW content creators or users’ images and videos should be placed behind a content warning that needs to be acknowledged before viewing the media.
Users may also add a one-time content warning on their individual posts. If users ignore or fail to mark their posts appropriately, the platform will adjust the account settings itself.
X also noted that users under 18 or viewers who do not include a birth date on their profile cannot click to view marked content.
Soon, users will begin to see media content warnings on posts that X designates as Adult Content. It will no longer be a generic sensitive media label.
Lastly, X advises users to mark their media accordingly when the new content warnings are available for use.
