Freshly released, the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G has been a great addition to the midrange segment. Specs alone, it shines with beautiful display panels, capable cameras, and powerful chipsets.
It even has a handful of AI-powered features enabling the devices to do more aside from what they already pack. We took the liberty to put these into writing, helping you decide if picking up the phones is worth it.
Specifically, we want to focus on the suite of accessible AI features that the series offer. With a starting price of roughly PHP 25,000, we’ll unpack why this is justified.

The camera system of the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G is led by a 50-megapixel LYT-600 main camera with OIS.
This OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G is paired with an 8-megapixel Sony IMX-355 ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto camera. At the front, it boasts a 50-megapixel selfie camera.
If you thought that the OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G took great shots, then you’re in for a treat. The OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G provides sharp images with great clarity, complemented further by its color accuracy.
As for the OPPO Reno12 5G, it’s paired with a 2-megapixel macro lens and an 8-megapixel Sony IMX-355 ultrawide. It also comes with a 32-megapixel camera for selfies at the front.
The cameras of the base model OPPO Reno12 5G offers great image quality that shines even more in well-lit environments. In comparison to previous Reno units, noise is less evident with shots taken.
So, how can users make the most out of these specs that the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G offer? The devices inspire creativity by leveraging AI to capture better shots with AI Eraser 2.0 and AI Studio.
The OPPO Reno12 Series 5G features AI Eraser 2.0, helping users remove things like clutter and photobombers for cleaner shots.
Kudos to OPPO, because the tool is really handy while being relatively easy to use. However, it does get tricky when removing objects like cars with shadows from photos.
If you live in the Philippines, you’d understand why I noted that. Roads are tight and working to remove shadows is quite troublesome. In spite of that, OPPO’s AI Eraser compensates by adding new objects like poles to fit the photo.
While the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G does fall under the midrange segment, I’d say this is a flagship feature. I feel like this alone could rival professional photo editing software.
With AI Studio, users can use their photos for personalized digital avatars or profile pictures.
Users just need a photo of themselves with a theme in mind. From there, AI Studio will get to work and give you a selection of themes to choose from. The program uses generative AI to help users give color to their ideas.
For those that prefer the usual means of photography, AI Portrait helps users compose great shots. This feature even helps adjust features like hairline, face shape, and cheekbones while keeping natural skin tones and lighting.
Both devices pack a 5,000mAh battery and come with 80W of SUPERVOOC™ fast charging support via USB Type-C.
As per our review, the OPPO Reno12 5G offers 15 hours and 34 minutes of battery life via PCMark’s Battery test. Meanwhile, the OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G offers 18 hours and 35 minutes of battery life with mixed usage variables as per PCMark.
Charging the devices takes roughly 49 minutes to 1 hour. But anyway, how can users make the most out of their batteries?
Aside from its custom Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G has AI-powered battery management tools.
The devices come with software features to optimize charging, helping the battery stay healthy even after four years of use.
The OPPO Reno12 5G Series comes with an AI Toolbox which can be found on the Smart Sidebar. It consists of neat tools like AI Writer, AI Speak, and AI Summary.
I have to note that these tools don’t have a dedicated app or shortcut. The toolbox has support from Google Gemini, recognizing what you’re doing on the phone. From here, it recommends what AI tool is best for the job.
The AI Writer comes in clutch when you need ideas on what to say. Users can find this handy when it comes to social media and even emails for work.
From experience, we were able to use this on the latter. It only takes a few seconds for it to generate a drafted response. I just had to add a couple of quick changes and responding certainly felt easier.
Next, we have AI Speak and AI Summary. These tools give users options on how to digest content online.
AI Summary can give you the whole gist of an online article in a short read with four bullets.
However, if you don’t feel like reading at all, AI Speak is a great backup. It basically narrates the entire article to readers through audio.
While I’ve mostly used it indoors, I can see its value. I imagined using this as some sort of a podcast tool. It’s certainly handy for commuting scenarios when you have to pay attention to train stops and such.
It doesn’t end there though. The Reno12 devices can also help you take minutes in meetings. You can leverage its AI Recording Summary tool for days when you feel too beat to take notes.
It’s rather simple, just record audio and click the option to generate a summary afterwards. From here, it’ll be able to give you quick bullets on what was discussed.
We actually tried this on one of our YouTube videos. We were pleasantly surprised at how aware the phone was with context. Our general consensus for the AI Toolbox is a collective thumbs up.
Last but not least, we have AI LinkBoost and BeaconLink. The former features a 360-degree antenna that boosts signal reception, optimizing network selection with AI for stable 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Full disclosure, you can’t really tinker with the feature in the menu or anything. It just works! From experience, however, the OPPO Reno12 Series 5G does give stable connections and faster download speeds.
Our reviewers both played resource-intensive games like Genshin Impact with no issues connectivity-wise.
In addition, we have BeaconLink. This is great for when users don’t have Wi-Fi or mobile data. It uses Bluetooth to help the devices connect with any OPPO-supported device within 200 meters to make calls.
