The release of Bluetooth 6 has been announced by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The latest update offers improvements with precision tracking and overall security.
The update also improves filtering and efficiency, easing the demands of the device battery life. There’s also a new feature called Channel Sounding, which determines the distance between two devices with centimeter-level accuracy.
Channel Sounding works through phase-based ranging to send radio signals between two devices at different frequencies. This lets new technology calculate the distance between the two points.
The feature will be integrated with “Find My Devices” soon. This is slated to improve location tracking for companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung. Further, it’s good for addressing security concerns by using digital keys. It assures that devices only unlock within a specific range.
However, the integration of Bluetooth 6 itself in newer devices have yet to be detailed yet. We’ll keep readers updated on when the latest Bluetooth version is going to become accessible.
