HUAWEI WATCH D2 Review

The HUAWEI WATCH D2, the Philippine’s first smartwatch to feature Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring. Some of you may think its predecessor was the first, but even though HUAWEI WATCH D users could measure blood pressure then, does not mean it was Ambulatory.

‘Ambulatory’ Blood Pressure Monitoring essentially just means, we can use the HUAWEI WATCH D2 to measure our blood pressure continuously over a 24-hour period, which its predecessor did not provide.

The WATCH D2 is also a bit thinner and sleeker-looking overall, paired with a robust suite of health-focused features. With advanced sensors for tracking blood pressure, ECG, stress, and more, it’s especially suited for users who prioritize health management, also perfect for monitoring our loved one’s well-being.

Available in both black and gold, the WATCH D2 promises reliability and style, making it an appealing choice for those who want a practical yet refined smartwatch for everyday health insights.

Design and Construction

Our review unit came in the sporty black colorway but there is a more elegant gold option that features a white strap available providing users with two great choices. Of course, other official and third party straps are always an option for any prospecting WATCH D2 buyer, but we also need to consider that it may be a bit more challenging to find them with cutouts for the airbags to fasten to.

Airbags?

Huawei Watch D2 (12)

Yes, there are two different-sized airbags that come preinstalled with the two straps. In our opinion, it’s best to think of the sizing as S-M for one, and M-L for the other. Compared to the WATCH D1, the WATCH D2’s straps are a lot more comfortable to wear. Being made out of TPU soft-touch rubber, it’s sweat resistant, skin friendly, and lightweight.

Swapping the included straps is just as easy as any HUAWEI smartwatch.

The crystal that protects the display is sapphire, the mid frame is made out of aluminum, and the caseback is made out of a combination of plastic and sapphire. It gets an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water.

All in all, we wound the aesthetic very subtle in a very good way. It’s lowkey and inconspicuous and I think that totally adds to its appeal. We really like how HUAWEI was able to keep everything as compact and convenient as possible.

In my honest opinion, swapping out or setting up the straps and airbags all feels very intuitive, especially for the average techy consumer.

Display and Audio

The watch features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display that delivers sharp, high-contrast visuals that pair well with the interface. The AMOLED panel gets a resolution of 480 × 408 pixels and we really don’t have any complaints when viewing health data, fitness metrics, and even notifications!

Visibility is great even under direct sunlight, and we have the HUAWEI Health app to access a plethora of paid and free watch faces users can customize. The WATCH D2 also gets Always-On display support but this feature can cut down on battery life.

OS, Apps, and UI

Running on HarmonyOS, the WATCH D2 provides a smooth, intuitive experience with full esential compatibility for Android and iOS.

Beyond its health focus, the WATCH D2 includes smartwatch essentials like call and message notifications with quick reply support, timers, and weather updates, along with voice assistance. The intuitive user interface makes navigating features effortless, ensuring it can easily serve as a versatile wearable for everyday use.

Health data syncs seamlessly with the HUAWEI Health app, where we can easily access or health trends, personalized insights, and enable family-sharing features. The app’s Family Health function allows the watch user to share data to anyone else with the HUAWEI Health app installed, enabling real-time monitoring of each other’s wellness.

Which we think is ideal for users looking for peace of mind when it comes to monitoring, maybe a family member prone to heart problems.

Health Monitoring and Fitness

Speaking of monitoring, equipped with a powerful array of sensors, the WATCH D2 excels in comprehensive general health monitoring.

The highlight here is Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring which utilizes a specialized Fusion Blood Pressure Algorithm for high accuracy. Like I mentioned earlier the airbags attached to the straps play a big role in enabling the WATCH D2’s highlight feature.

When checking for blood pressure, the watch-user will need to have the watch-wearing hand crossed onto their chest. The alternating hand must grasp the base of the initial arm’s elbow for support. HUAWEI claims this is what gives out the most accurate read.

Huawei Watch D2 (7)

With the actual ABPM feature enabled, the WATCH D2’s battery life can diminish to a day, unless of course you choose not to take your blood pressure when the watch reminds you.

Apart from that, we get the usual HUAWEI WATCH sensors, an ECG sensor for real-time heart health updates, and stress tracking. Users can also monitor sleep patterns and receive personalized suggestions, ensuring a holistic approach to health.

Huawei Watch D2 (10)

This one also features Health Glance, which conveniently does all the tests it can for you in one go! And ladies also get access to cycle prediction.

For fitness, we get the usual and feature-filled suite of free workout monitoring modes, for getting more date and insights from our preferred sports. There also a generous amount of built-in exercises.

Battery Life and Connectivity

Huawei Watch D2 (2)

The WATCH D2’s 525 mAh battery boasts up to 6 days of battery life under typical use and remains reliable even with blood pressure testing here and there. This longevity means users won’t need frequent recharging, an essential feature for continuous health tracking.

But like I mentioned earlier, this CAN dwindle down to a day with the 24-hour ABPM feature enabled, and having an AOD can also cut the 6-day battery life down to about 3 days.

Compatible with both iOS and Android, the WATCH D2 connects via Bluetooth, ensuring a wide user base can benefit from its features. Using the watch as a remote camera trigger, unfortunately is still only exclusive to Huawei smartphone users.

And even though the WATCH D2 does get GPS positioning, it does not feature the more advanced GALILEO, QZSS, and GLONASS satellite navigation systems found in other HUAWEI WATCH series’.
