The FlutterFlow HackFest: Impact Challenge, hosted by the FlutterFlow Developer Group (FFDG) Manila, concluded with resounding success. Over an intense 24-hour period, 13 teams of talented Filipino developers showcased their innovative solutions to pressing global issues.
From Idea to Impact: A 24-Hour Hackathon
Day 1 of the HackFest took place on November 22 at the Google Philippines office in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City, where participants were inspired by keynote speeches from industry leaders. Jan Michael Jaudian, Head of Customer Engineering for the Philippines and Vietnam at Google, discussed how technology serves as both a tool and a toolkit for solving real-world problems. Elmerei Cuevas, MBA, Social Innovation Analyst at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), provided insights into the Philippines’ progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and motivated participants to create apps for social good and sustainable development.
On November 23, the event culminated in a thrilling Demo Day held at Common Ground Rockwell, Makati City. Teams showcased their solutions developed in just 24 hours using FlutterFlow’s intuitive platform. Team Null took home the first-place prize of ₱50,000 with Sustancia, an AI-powered app that promotes balanced eating habits and provides city-wide nutrition trends. Team Flux secured second place with ₱30,000 for Inspectrum, an innovative app utilizing eye gaze tracking technology to aid in the early detection of ADHD and ASD. Third place went to Team Neosolve, winning ₱20,000 for Procrash, a gamified productivity app that transforms habit-building into an engaging adventure.
Throughout the two-day event, the teams were guided by an incredible lineup of mentors and judges, including Steve Ng (FlutterFlow), Allan Tan (Predictive Systems Inc), Miguel Fermin (White Cloak Technologies), Vince Rocha (Mylo Speech Buddy), Jeff Mendoza (MyCondoPal), Myles Delfin (BikeScout), Joshua de Guzman (Dub), Jake Go (Springboard), Albert Padin (mWell), Atty. Hazel Manaog-Mendoza, and Michie Ang (Women Who Code). Special appreciation is also extended to Dominic Medenilla (Google) for his valuable support in making the hackfest a success.
The 13 apps developed during the HackFest tackled a range of pressing issues aligned with three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, apps like Sustancia, Inspectrum, Optimai, and AI Rescue addressed critical challenges such as promoting healthy eating, enabling early disease detection, providing mental health support, and improving emergency response. For SDG 4: Quality Education, apps such as Ipaglaban Mo, ElevatEd, Procrash, and A11y focused on delivering legal education, supporting learners with dyscalculia, enhancing productivity, and creating a web accessibility platform. Meanwhile, under SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, apps like ECO Learn, SureBin, Scrapify, Repari, and Rent ‘n Lend offered innovative solutions for environmental sustainability, efficient waste management, recycling, household repairs, and community resource-sharing.
