Big Final Cut Pro updates, Final Cut Camera now available

Big updates for Final Cut Pro on iPads and Macs are now available, along with Final Cut Camera. Apple announced Final Cut for iPad 2 and the updates to Final Cut for Mac at their recent iPad-centered event.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 promises users rendering twice as fast. It also suggests four times more streams of ProRes RAW when combined with the new M4 chip-powered iPad Pro.

This app also allows external project support, letting users make and open projects from an external storage device. Prior to this, files had to be moved to the iPad in order to edit them.

This update makes editing on the tablet smoother, especially when moving an iPad edit to Macs. It’s also less taxing on the device, since files won’t clog up the iPad’s internal SSD anymore.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 also offers 12 new color grading presets, 8 basic text titles, and 20 new soundtracks. In addition, dynamic backgrounds have been added for creating text overlays and title sequences.

However, the most notable feature is the addition of Live Multicam. This allows users to connect and preview up to 4 iPhones or iPad feeds at once wirelessly.

On the commanding iPad, users will get a director’s view of each camera. The app also offers manual control over connected device settings, visibility to audio levels, and remaining battery life.

However, the feature only works if the devices have Final Cut Camera (which just became available today) installed.

Final Cut Camera and Final Cut Pro (version 10.8)

Final Cut Camera 27 is a free app that powers Live Multicam, working as a standalone recording app on iPhones and iPads. The app lets users adjust settings like manual focus, shutter speed, ISO, and more.

Final Cut Pro version 10.8 is also now available on Macs. This update adds Enhance Light and Color, for improving color balance, contrast, and brightness in one click.

This is an AI-powered feature that works on SDR, HDR, RAW, and Log-encoded media. Color corrections and video effects can also be given custom names. Further, effects can be dragged from there to other clips in the timeline or viewer.

Users can also search for clips with missing media or effects on the timeline index. A text-based timeline search has also been added to display information consisting of reel, scene, camera angle, and more.

This update for Final Cut Pro on Mac is free for existing users, but will cost USD 300 (~PHP 17,700) for new users. Final Cut for iPad 2 is available as a subscription for $5 per month or USD 50 (~PHP 300) per year.
