Android KitKat update for Nexus devices is coming

It seems like Nexus owners won’t be waiting much longer to be upgraded to Android 4.4.3. According to reports, the KitKat update will be rolling out to Nexus smartphones and tablets starting the end of next week.

The update is targeted for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones as well as Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. The new 4.4.3 version will allegedly bring support for a new version of Google TV, improvements to Bluetooth, connectivity, and general bug fixes. We should be seeing this new version on May 23, 2014.

Although this leaves other Android owners still longing for a KitKat update, we’re expecting Google to come out with an entirely new version (maybe Android 5.0) to be revealed at this year’s I/O event before the second half of the year comes.

During this time, it was also rumored that the Nexus 8 tablet will be making its debut along with the Nexus 10 2. The Nexus 6 is also originally expected to be launched at this event but as we’ve reported earlier, we might not be seeing it anymore.

    Not excited that for Kitkat 4.4.3 much since:
    1. KitKat 4.4.2 has been very stable so far…
    Hopefully we wont get the CAMERA and RAPID BATTERY DRAIN bugs that has been a headache for most KitKat users;
    2. It will break compatibility with a lot of apps like MXPlayer Pro (which seems to refuse to work with next OS update);
    3. OTA updates will break also temporarily break ROOT.
    4. A lot of old Nexus Phones/tablets will cease to get Android updates after the 18-month life cycle. Beyond that, it’s off to 3rd party ROMs like CYANOGENMOD.

    On the positive side: This will probably include the new ICONS (Project Hera) and UI.. and hopefully some bugfixes..

    So what’s next after this? ANDROID 5.0 ‘LOLLIPOP’ :)
