One of the upcoming services that was demo’ed on Google I/O Developer Conference is Google Wave, a new communication and collaboration tool.
If you haven’t heard about it, you may want to check out this demo video from them (it’s an hour and 20 minutes long though so sit back and relax):
My impression with Google Wave is that it’s like a live session of GTalk, Wikipedia, Flickr and Twitter — all happening in a browser. It looks nice and cool — and that happens in the “clouds”.
The other impression that I am getting is that Google Wave wants to replace the way people “email” each other. We’ve already seen this with the threaded conversations in GMail and the GTalk chat feature inside GMail.
This would have been nice if people liked replying and sending out emails. But for one like me who’s flooded with emails all day, everyday and can barely cope up — there is no escape now. :(
Hi Abe, would it be possible to send me an invite? thanks!
My wife keeps telling me I’m wasting my precious time on games, then I just tell her to shut up =D
yeah as a junior web developer i would like to learn and develop using HTML 5 functionality good job google
Now Google can now EXACTLY what we talk about, CHAT about, and next THINK about so they can serve ads to us… woo-hoo! sign me up! Maybe next I don’t even have to think and they can just send me stuff…
what I heard from that google i/o was everyone who attended got a HTC G2 phone with 3 mo service FREE!! i’d watch ice melt for something like that…
I told myself at the beginning that I likely wouldn’t watch the whole demo … instead I watched the whole thing and looked back a couple oparts for a second go-round. I am signed up for sure.
I don’t get much email, another friend of mine, like Abe, gets a ton of email and he too is afraid it will be overwhelming.
I guess it is all in one’s outliokk, because I thought of it as a tool that will actually streamline my mail, IM and especially Twitter needs. I guess time will tell which impression comes out right.
Regarding needing a high speed connection .. of course, the higher the better, but the great part of Wave is that they send the message in tiny increments so that there will even be some utility on slow links.
And for guys who are developers, or wanna be developers, what a tool … you cna build tons of things using the platform with zero cost and little time … if some high quality multilayer game doesn’t surface out of Wave right off the bat I’ll be surprised. Amazing free stuff.
i watched the so called “DEMO” entirely and all i can say is wow. so if facebook is a SocialNetwokingSite, twitter a MicroBloggingSite, what does that make google wave? a whole new thing? the last 7 mins. or so really blew me out, the whole thing is alive and changing whatever you throw at it, it does spellcheck at an unbelievable amount of accuracy and seeing that it TRANSLATES character per character, word per word is truly blew me away. that is really hard to do… sob.. congrats though it’s still in the works. will be keeping an eye on this.
Prepare for information overload! ;)
And you really need a fast connection to fully utilize Google Wave. And if we’re like Abe who gets flooded with emails daily, prepare for Google Tsunami! lolz
My initial reaction when I saw the screenshots was that it’s too crowded and busy. But I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve actually tried out the service. Signed up already… ^_^
I like it, makes me wanna go do some back reading on the google api. I’m a big fan of google’s services and I’m really looking forward to this.
with that length, it’s probably the best time to microwave that pop corn sitting in my cupboard.
di ba nakakatamad to watch that video… oo nga its just like watching a movie .
OMG ang haba naman ng DEMO VIDEO na yan!!! Parang nanood na ako ng pelikula….Hmmm let me think twice…
