Both of these phones are great based on our reviews, which you can check out on the site. But, if we had to compare the two, which one should we recommend? Well, read on to find out.

Performance

One of the key differences between the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP and the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G can be found under the hood.

Image 5

Powering the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP is a Mediatek Dimensity 8050 5G chipset, while the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G uses an older MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G chipset. While the Dimensity 1080 chipset is good, it is rather dated launched in 2022. In comparison, the Dimensity 8050 was only launched earlier this year.

Based on the benchmark scores, the Dimensity 8050 5G is heaps faster than the Dimensity 1080. As a result, you can enjoy gaming and do more tasks with the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP as opposed to the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G.

Aside from the Infinix having a newer, more powerful chipset, it also has more RAM. And no we’re not just talking about virtual RAM. The NOTE 30 VIP comes with 12 GB RAM and can be virtually extended by an additional 9 GB for a total of 21 GB. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G has 8 GB RAM and can have up to 5GB for a total of 13 GB.

As for storage, both models are capped at 256GB. But as mentioned above, only the Infinix comes with a microSD card slot to expand storage capacity further.

Battery

Both the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP and the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G are equipped with a 5,000mAh battery pack, which is pretty much standard these days. But there is a big difference in how they charge.

When plugged in, the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP can take advantage of 68W fast charging. The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G isn’t far behind though with 67W fast charging. However, only the Infinix comes with wireless charging, and it’s not slow either. Infinix claims the NOTE 30 VIP can do up to 50W when charging wirelessly. It can even do reverse wireless charging and reverse wired charging, which is not possible with the Redmi.

While not everyone uses wireless charging, being able to do so makes it much more convenient for users that do have a wireless charging pad.

Design and Construction

In terms of design, the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP and the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G are both great-looking phones. They are both similarly sized as well and sport similar designs with square corners as opposed to rounded ones. As for construction, they both feel nice and solid.

Both smartphones feature a USB-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, dual-loud speakers, and a dual-sim card tray. However, the location of the audio jack on the two phones is different. The one on the Redmi can be found on top, while the one on the NOTE 30 VIP is at the bottom.

One main difference between the two phones is the construction. While the frame of the two phones is made of plastic. The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G has a back panel made out of glass, which is relatively smudge resistant. As such, it feels a bit more premium and nicer to hold. In comparison, the back panel on the NOTE 30 VIP is made out of plastic, which still feels durable but not as premium as the Redmi.

Another difference is the microSD card slot, or lack thereof in the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G. For reference, the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP has a microSD card slot.

Lastly, you have the colors of the phone themselves. The Infinix NOTE 30 VIP is available with louder colors, making them more flashy – perfect for users that want colorful phones. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G looks a bit more sedate and classy with its line of color choices; a perfect pair with the glass panel.

As we always say, style is subjective, but the Redmi does look and feel more premium and classy. But if you want something loud, then the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP is something more for you.

Display and Multimedia

Comparing design can be subjective, but it’s hard to argue about the hardware on each phone. In terms of display, the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP and the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G are equally matched.

Both phones feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. As a result, they look great when watching videos or when you’re playing games. The colors on both are nice too, with options of having saturated colors or something a bit more natural. At the same time, they’re both very bright with a maximum of 900nits. As a result, you can certainly enjoy watching or game wherever you are.

As a result, watching videos or playing games are equally enjoyable on both phones. Even the loudspeakers work well when watching with friends. For reference, the Redmi comes with Dolby Atmos, while the Infinix’s loudspeakers are tuned by JBL.

In terms of protection, the screens of both phones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, to prevent accidental scratches.

Cameras

For the cameras, both come with a triple rear camera system. The Infinix NOTE 30 5G sports a triple rear camera system featuring a 108MP main sensor, 2MP macro, and 2MP ultrawide. In comparison, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G uses a 50MP main lens, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro lens.

While the Infinix may have a higher megapixel count at 108MP, Redmi did disclose what sensor they use for the main lens which is a Sony IMX766 camera. It’s one of the most popular sensors found in smartphones today, and they do capture nice images. Meanwhile, the Redmi has the advantage of an 8MP ultrawide as opposed to the 2MP ultrawide on the Infinix.

As for the front camera though, the Infinix appears to have the better unit on paper. The NOTE 30 VIP features a 32MP camera, which captures great selfies in most lighting conditions. While the front camera on the Redmi is also good, users will have to settle with only 16MP at max.

In terms of video, they’re also on equal standing as both phones are capable of capturing video at 4K@30FPS max.

Price

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for – price. Given the hardware these two have, you’d expect the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP to be the more expensive phone, but that’s not the case. In fact, it’s very affordable considering everything it can do. The Infinix NOTE 30 VIP currently retails for PHP 13,999 for the 12GB|256GB variant, which is the only variant available in the Philippines.

As for the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, it’s still a great phone nonetheless as we mentioned in our review. But for the 8GB|256GB variant, it retails for PHP 17,999USD 307INR 26,001EUR 292CNY 2,234. This makes the Redmi PHP 4,000USD 68INR 5,778EUR 65CNY 496 more expensive and yet it still runs an older chipset, less RAM, and no expandable storage.

It’s hard not to choose the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP given everything it offers for the price, especially if you plan to play games and more. But if you want the glass back panel and classier-looking phone with a Sony IMX766 camera, you can’t really go wrong with the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G.
