POCO X7 Pro Hands-On, First Impressions

The POCO X7 Pro is poised to make its debut in the Philippines. This device headlines the latest POCO X line and is equipped with the new MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset.

In other words, we don’t expect it to be a slouch performance-wise. POCO has always found a good balance between pricing and product quality, so we’re certain that this won’t disappoint.

Of course, we could be proven wrong. So today, we’re here to share our experience with the device on day one. For reference, our review unit came with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Speaking of, it also comes in a two-tone colorway in Black and Yellow. The phone itself feels nice to hold, even sporting a good amount of weight to it. It’s fairly slim at 8.3mm as well.

The back panel has what feels like a leather finish and a bit of shimmer from the POCO logo below. Suffice it to say, smudges shouldn’t be an issue for the device.

At the front, it has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It’s fitted with dual stereo speakers on the top and bottom as well to round out media consumption.

While pricing details are still under wraps, the device is expected to be around the midrange segment. However, the device already gives off a premium feel from its display alone.

The screen feels very fluid and buttery-smooth. I’m on day one, but scrolling, streaming, and gaming feels superb as is. These are only complemented further with the phone’s razor thin bezels.

For audio, the speakers weren’t too shabby either. They’re loud and don’t get muffled if you have to hold your device horizontally in between YouTube or gaming binges.

On the performance front, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra. We did our initial benchmarks and found that it was able to pump 1,590,303 points in AnTuTu v10.

Considering that the device should fall under the midrange price segment, this is insanely good. It’s rated pretty high for storage too.

From experience, the phone should be a great pickup for gamers. You can enjoy Genshin Impact with high graphics settings toggled on at a stable 60 frames per second. Users may even try to overclock it, but from that point, it can heat up slightly.

I should also mention that the phone runs on an updated Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 15. I’d say it’s only gotten smoother. Some could argue that it would’ve felt cleaner if users don’t find a bit of bloatware an issue. I’m not dropping names, but at least the OS doesn’t work to feed ads to you consistently.

Now then, we have optics. I put this part a bit late because this genuinely, pleasantly surprised me. The X7 Pro has a 50-megapixel main camera paired with an 8-megapixel ultrawide. At the front, it’s equipped with a 20-megapixel selfie shooter.

It can produce clear, color accurate images with a great amount of detail. We also noticed that the HDR isn’t too aggressive when toggled on, which is great. Users will also find that it comes with great stabilization, which makes taking photos and videos easier.

Wrapping up, we also have to mention that this phone packs a 6,000mAh battery. It comes with support for 90W of fast charging via USB Type-C as well. However, readers will have to stay tuned for our battery benchmarks.

It’s pretty safe to say that POCO has started the year strong with their latest offering. I’m happy that they’re staying true to what they’re known for. POCO has always provided accessible, quality-driven smartphones and it doesn’t look like that’s changing anytime soon.

If readers need a top-tier device without breaking the bank, the POCO X7 Pro should be on your list. To find out more, wait a couple of days as we’ll release our full review by then.
