Numbers are in and according to SEC filings of PLDT and Globe, the two telcos made a combined net income of Php21.5 billion for the first half of 2016, ending June 30, 2016.
Here’s our infographic on how each of the two giants performed from January to June this year.
Biggest loser is PLDT/Smart with a 33% drop in net income for the same period while Globe did a little better at 3% increase compared to the same period as last year. This is the biggest drop in net income for PLDT in a long time.
In reality, PLDT’s core net income dropped only 6% or just a little over PHP1B. The bulk of the PLDT’s net income drop is due to an investment loss in Germany e-commerce company, Rocket Internet (for non-accountants the loss in Rocket Internet, to which PLDT has stake, was recognized in PLDT’s books. So that using the principle of comparing apple to apple, PLDT net profit was down only 6% and Globe up by 3% (assuming Globes 100% core figures).

And Globe still wants to add P5.00 additional charge to emergency calls, following the government’s instruction, according to them, yet fighting tooth and nail with the PCC.
“Infographic: Here’s how much Globe and PLDT/Smart?” Sorry, but the title does not express a complete thought.
it says “Infographic: Here’s how much Globe and PLDT/Smart earned in 1H 2016”, can you not read.
Check your Net income for Globe. It states only +3% when income went up from 8.6B to 12.5B. Is that correct? Isn’t it supposed to be up 45.35%?
Typo error. Values have been fixed already, thanks!
The figure for Globe’s net income is from 8,6B to 9.0B, and not from 8.6B to 12.5B, pls take a look back at the bottom of the infograph
