All home broadband plans nowadays come with a bundled WiFi router and ISPs have also started offering router upgrades, including some mesh WiFi packages. However, these upgrade options are very expensive and you might be better off getting one of your own.
When looking for a home WiFi router, there are a number of features that you might want to consider. First is that it should support Gigabit speeds (1,000Mbps) and upwards. Second, it should have a stronger signal that can cover your entire house (normally indicated by more antennas). Lastly, it should be affordable.
There are a few options available in the market and one of them is from Tenda, a known name in the industry for making very capable yet affordable networking devices.
Among their offerings is the Tenda AC23 AC2100. AC2100 is a dual-band gigabit wireless router specially designed for households with high-speed internet access. It supports 802.11ac technology and provides WiFi speed up to 2033Mbps to achieve the best performance for your fiber internet connection.
We’ve been using the Tenda AC2100 for several months now and found it easy to use and has all the features one could ever look for in a home router.
It has three LAN ports, one WAN port and more than half a dozen antennas so you would not miss a strong signal anywhere in your home.
The Tenda AC2100 supports fiber broadband connections of up to 1Gbps. Maximum theoretical wireless speed is 300Mbps for the 2.4Ghz frequency and up to 1,733Mbps on the 5GHz channel. Of course, you need to place the router in a location where it gets the best reception in the entire home, especially when you have a second or third floor.
Our fiber broadband at home maxes out at 100Mbps so the AC2100 doesn’t have any problems handling that and perhaps even if we upgrade to 200Mbps or 300Mbps in the future.
For stronger WiFi signal throughout the house, it is equipped with 7 x 6dBi external antennas. Powered by 4X4 MU-MIMO technology of 5GHz band, it provides wider WiFi coverage and faster WiFi speed than regular routers with 3X3 MU-MIMO technology. Equipped with full gigabit LAN ports, it supports up to 1000Mbps bandwidth access.
The 28nm 1GHz CPU equipped with 500MHz co-processor, dual-core design brings a faster processing speed and provides optimized operation. The admin panel is accessible via a web browser but you can also download the Android app to manage the router and change the settings.
Here are some of the more important specifications of the Tenda AC2100.

The Tenda AC2100 retails for about Php2,190 in Lazada and retail stores. That’s already very affordable for this kind of broadband WiFi router and all the features it offers.
If you’re still looking for something much cheaper, Tenda also has an entry-level router — the Tenda AC5 AC1200. While this is not a gigabit router, it still supports WiFi speeds of up to 300Mbps, which is already more than enough if you’re just using it for typical home use.
This dual-band router supports 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz frequency, has 3 LAN ports, one WAN port with four 5dBi antennas.
You can get the Tenda AC5 AC1200 for a suggested retail price of only Php890.
