If you don’t need the super high-end Core i9 and RTX 2080 Super that the Strix SCAR offers, then check out the Strix G series! The ROG Strix G-series comes in three different colorways: Black, Glacier Blue, and the new Electro Punk. It’s called the e-sports laptop, as even the base model runs at 144Hz. But don’t let their marketing fool you into thinking that’s all it can handle. The Strix G sports the latest 10th generation Intel processors and NVIDIA’s RTX 20-Super series GPU.
Today we’ll be looking at the smallest of the bunch, the Strix G15, as well as take a sneak peek at their new Electro Punk design.
The ROG Strix G employs a brushed aluminum design for the top lid and base of the chassis. Similar to the Strix SCAR, it also has an RGB strip running along its base, with the Electro Punk variant shining with hot pink.
Opening the lid reveals the 15.6-inch Full HD display running at 240Hz with a 3ms response time.
On the left-hand side sits three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
Interestingly, the only side heat vent on the Strix G15 is located on the right. Given the high-performance parts inside, we’re interested to know how well the Strix G15 handles heat.
Located behind the laptop are the RJ45 jack, full-sized HDMI port, USB-C port that is compatible with PD charging, and dedicated charging port.
The e-sports design philosophy follows with the keyboard. The WASD keys are colored differently for better visibility, and there are dedicated Nav keys on the right, which you could bind to other in-game functions.
Sitting below the keyboard is a small touchpad with physical left and right mouse buttons. Since most users would probably use a proper mouse, sacrificing touchpad space for a better keyboard layout seems to be an excellent design choice.
Despite being called the e-sports laptop, the ROG Strix G 15 still packs a punch. It sports a 10th generation Intel Core i7-10875H paired with an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super. It can be configured to have 32GB 3200MHz RAM, and there are three M.2 slots for storage, two of which can be used in RAID 0.
The ROG Strix G15 and G17 will be available in the Philippines; however, ASUS has not yet set a definitive release date and price. Stay tuned for more updates!
