Microsoft IE9 ready for download

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) has just been made available for download a few hours ago. First came out into beta back in September 2010, Microsoft’s IE9 supports HTML5 and comes with a lot of bells and whistles.

Some of the features included in IE9 aren’t really new and have long been available in other browsers like Google’s Chrome.

And as I’ve said before

The new IE9 feels faster, looks cleaner and more integrated (design-wise) to Windows 7. So far, I’m a somewhat impressed with the additional bells and whistles. It’s like Chrome + ActiveX = IE9. The address bar also serves as search box.

It’s got a smaller footprint too and event he installation file is just 18MB (though Firefox is only around 8MB and Flock is 13MB). I was pretty interested with the HTML5/CSS3 support and the web app approach which is something I’m planning to include in the upcoming re-design of this blog.

And just like what Chrome does, each tab of IE9 runs as a separate process so even if a windows freezes up or crashes, you can close it and the other windows will remain open and running just fine.

Go check it out here and see if the new YugaTech theme.

  3. dexoto says:

IE is the best browser to download other browsers =)

  4. .net_dev says:

IE is still the browser of choice for corporate intranet .net web applications.

  5. Miguel Paraz says:

Tried it, and it doesn’t work with my favorite site, Quora – http://www.quora.com

So I’m keeping it just for the one site that requires it – Microsoft Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server.

  6. sotico aleman says:

even me. not quite impressed. ie9 is only my secondary browser. i wont change firefox..

  7. IC DeaDPiPoL says:

Anyone experience any printing issues under IE9?

  8. Atlanta Roofing says:

Internet Explorer is very easy to use and most of the people are using i.e. around the World. I think i.e. 9 will be faster than 8.

  9. markem says:

i still prefer to use chrome/flock than ie9..

  10. Jarey says:

beta po kaya ang nadownload ko? lagi kasing nagka-crash eh. can you give me the link to the official released installer? :)

  11. Just me says:

so far the best version of IE! a lot faster and I really love the interface. Uninstalling Opera/Chrome….. =)

  12. SpiderHam says:

IE 9 will allow you to download Firefox faster than IE 8! Hahaha!
    We’ll check IE 9 soon!

  13. Messie says:

Alright, so I downloaded and installed IE9 for Win7 64bit , here are the things I noted about this browser:

-First feedback: ang bagal mag install =/

-‎2nd feedback: needs a restart after installation. Hmmm.. Windows 7 is treating this like an OS update. May configuring windows pa upon reboot.

-First thing I did is to work on bookmarks. it crashed agad when I imported them from firefox. I don’t know why pero you can’t import bookmarks from Chrome (not in the choices). Ginawa ko na lang is export bookmarks to file sa Chrome tapos import sa IE

-Managing bookmarks is a pain. You can’t select multiple bookmarks so you can’t delete them. Every bookmark is treated like a hot link so dragging to select multiple bookmarks is not possible.

-I needed to download a special flash player for this since my browser is 64 bit. It’s called the flash player “Square” from Adobe.

-Big turn-off: Middle click to open in new tab does not work in IE 9!!! >( I miss it already

-I tried to pin facebook but the jump list feature did not work. I don’t know why. Besides, when you open a pinned site, it opens in another window instead of another tab. I don’t know if you can set that in a way.

-So I tried playing Cafe world in it. It looked a bit different, meaning there was “some” 3d rendering was used, but it is still laggy on my end. There might be some improvement but it is too menial to notice.

So generally, it feels a bit unstable. There were some setting that I think I’m not used to, being a firefox and chrome user. Yeah, it may rival Chrome in speed, but I don’t feel comfortable using IE. Alright, alright it just came out… maybe I’ll wait for some updates before setting it up as my default browser.

End verdict: I’m putting IE 9 on the wait list for now and will still be using Google Chrome =D

    • someone says:

middle click to open links (new tab) works.
jump list works on facebook (pinned facebook to taskbar, and the task bar shows options like messages, friends, etc)

    • Messie says:

I found out that the jumplist only works on the 32 bit version. It doesn’t work sa 64 bit, I don’t know why. Good thing it installs both version when you download the 64 bit installer.

For the middle click, I will have to try it again later. Most probably, disabled din ito sa 64 bit and baka sa 32 bit lang siya gumagana.

  14. Jhay says:

Hahaha, sigurado konti lang magdodownload nian, 80% ng Pinas fake ang OS nila.

    • Ishmael Ahab says:

Haha! Tama ka d’yan. Kaya nga naka-focus Microsoft sa Pinas eh. Dahil sa dami ng pirated OS. :-P

  15. adam says:

Sorry I mean older version seems to be slow.

  16. adam says:

I’m going to try this version of IE. Though I older version to be slow.

  17. Norman says:

Simplicity speaking, I will go for Chrome, next Safari then Firefox. IE not in my list.

  18. orak says:

I downloaded Microsoft IE9 for its speed and power, which come from its use of HTML 5 and hardware acceleration. Microsoft claimed that the browser can draw on processing power from the PCs graphics processor as well as from the central processor. However, the sad part is that it won’t run on my WinXp :(

    • paul says:

is this confirmed? darn… wanted to try it out with my 900HA netbook. the thing is, i have xp as my OS.

oh well, maybe i’ll install IE9 in my other laptop. that one has Vista.

frankly, i’ll be doing it out of curiousity. very much satisfied with firefox for my netbook and chrome for my regular laptop.

  19. Adrian says:

    safari pa din.

  20. Shena says:

I’ve never been an IE fan, Chrome is still my favorite out of IE, Opera, Firefox, Safari….

  21. JKisaragi says:

Nice. I’m actually using it right now. A bit unsure about the tab placement kasi share sila ng space with the address & search bar, which if you open up a lot of tabs it’ll look really cramped.

Tried searching just now on IE9, mas mabilis parin mag return ng results ang Google Chrome.

Anyhow, it’s still nice to see that there’s somewhat an improvement. They’re moving forward with the unified address and search bar too. :)

    • lawrence says:

You can right-click on the task bar and check the option “Show tabs on a separate row”.

  22. KennyV says:

Nice. Pero hassle na mag shift, masaya na ako sa Chrome.

  23. @benchmark33 says:

    But you haven’t tried IE9.

    • Benchmark33 says:

in our office IE9…i still love my firefox at home… :)

    • y4nix says:

IE9 RTM was just release yesterday and your office is already using it.. WOW!!!

  24. arj says:

sweet. but ie9 is my secondary browser

  25. Benchmark33 says:

I still prefer Firefox…Simple yet elegant…plus much more safer than IE. :-)

  26. roca says:

unless revolutionary, i really dislike IE.
sorry but for me the only thing its good for is to download firefox or chrome.
