Meta has revealed that Facebook Messenger will no longer be available as an app on the Apple Watch by May 31, 2023.
Users have spotted the alert stating “Changes to Messenger on Apple Watch” which detailed that Messenger won’t be available as an Apple Watch app.
However, it also stated that users can still and will only receive Messenger notifications on their Apple Watch. Users just won’t be able to read or respond like they can as of now.
Review Geek has heard feedback from a Meta spokesperson saying that the change will take place at the beginning of June rather than the end of May.
Either way, it remains unclear as to the reason behind Messenger’s removal since Meta has given any official information or reason for the decision to remove it.
Other users have speculated that it may have something to do with Meta getting you to use Facebook Messenger on your phone more and thus show more ads.
But for whatever reason it may be, it is sad to see Facebook Messenger no longer available on the Apple Watch since it was a key feature for a lot of users to reply to messages, send voice clips, stickers, and more when their phone wasn’t readily available.
