The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were announced in September 2016. The latter serves as Apple’s first iPhone with dual rear cameras. Google Pixel, Pixel XL
Google introduced its first smartphones in October 2016. If you want a pure Android experience in the best of what Google has to offer, the Pixel smartphones are your best bet right now. Although the 2nd-gen Pixels are already out on the market, the original Pixel smartphones can still be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo and security updates until October 2019. Huawei announced the P9 and P9 Plus in April 2016. It was one of the best camera-centric smartphones of that year with its dual rear cameras co-engineered with Leica. It runs on the company’s HiSilicon Kirin 955 chipset paired with 4GB RAM. The Huawei P9 is currently priced at MemoXpress for Php23,990USD 409INR 34,656EUR 389CNY 2,977.
Announced in November 2016, the Mate 9 is Huawei’s flagship offering for those who feel that the P9 and P9 Plus aren’t enough. For one, it packs a 5.9-inch FHD display, HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset, 4GB RAM, and dual rear cameras with Leica optics. The Huawei Mate 9 is available MemoXpress and Villman for Php32K.
The LG G5 is the company’s previous flagship introduced in February 2016. It boasts a modular design that takes advantage of accessories called LG Friends to expand its functionality. Although LG has dropped the modular design in the G6, the G5 is still a worthy device with its 5.3-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 820 chipset, and dual rear cameras. If you don’t like the modular design of the G5, you may opt to go for the LG V20 which was announced in September 2016. It has a larger 5.7-inch QHD display, B&O Play audio, and 3,200mAh battery. If attaching mods on your smartphone is your thing like with the G5, you may want to take a look at the Motorola Moto Z that was announced in June 2016. The OnePlus 3T was announced in November 2016 and is the upgrade to the OnePlus 3 announced in June 2016. It became available at Digital Walker in March 2017 but it looks like it’s no longer available since we already have the OnePlus 5. Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge
Samsung is not to be left behind with its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. These phones are basically twins, with the latter having a larger curved display at QHD resolution and bigger battery. Powering it is an Exynos 8890 chipset, 4GB RAM, 12MP cameras, and dust and water resistance. We spotted the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge at MemoXpress for Php35,990USD 613INR 51,991EUR 584CNY 4,466.
Samsung had a winner smartphone last year in the form of the Galaxy Note7, that is before the company recalled the units due to a serious battery effect.
