Vivo launched this month in the Philippines its latest smartphone, boasting a 6.3-inch FullView display with a notch design, Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chipset, dual-rear cameras, a 24MP front camera, and Android Oreo, the Vivo V9. If you’re thinking of getting this device, here are its five best features that make it worth your purchase.
Table of Contents
At 6.3-inches, the Vivo V9 puts it in the same league as other large-screened smartphones with slim bezels and an impressive 90% screen-to-body ratio. It also sports a 19:9 aspect ratio which is different to the more popular 18:9. Given the design of the screen, the V9’s FullView display seem more immersive. The Full HD+ resolution with a pixel density of 400ppi improves the experience as well. Colors are accurate, viewing angles are good, and the screen is vibrant enough to be comfortably used outdoors.
One of the first things you’ll notice about a smartphone is its design. Good thing the Vivo V9 can deliver in this department as it is one of the best-looking phones in its class. It sports a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the front. It measures 7.89mm thin and feels even thinner thanks to the sides that curve towards the edges. The rear is made of plastic and a fingerprint magnet, but its light in the hands and the Pearl Black color is beautiful and eye-catching. It comes in gold too if you prefer a more premium look.
The Vivo V9 uses a dual-rear camera setup consisting of a 16MP primary and a 5MP secondary to aid in bokeh effects which can simulate apertures from f/16 to f/0.95. Features include Professional mode, Panorama, Face Beauty, AR stickers, AI HDR, Live Photo, Ultra HD, PPT mode, Slow motion, and Time-Lapse. Image quality is good with sharp details, high dynamic range, and accurate colors, especially in bright conditions. The bokeh effect works fine if there’s a sufficient space (at least 2m) between the subject and the background. You can even shoot first and focus later.
Given the 24MP front camera, the Vivo V9 can be called a selfie-centric device. But it’s not just about megapixels as it also features AI Face Beauty which utilizes a database of almost one million facial images from all over the world. The V9’s front camera can detect your gender, age, skin tone, and texture, as well as the lighting environment, and uses this information to deliver astonishingly clear, beautiful selfies. It can also learn your customized setting preferences and apply these settings automatically each time you take a photo. In addition, it has AR Sticker and AI Selfie Lighting to give your selfie the light effects normally done in photo studios.
Powering the Vivo V9 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa-core chipset, Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and a dedicated microSD card slot. Running the software side is FunTouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Heavy-users will be satisfied as it is capable of running demanding games and handle multiple apps in the background. In addition, it has features like AI Face Access so you can unlock your phone by simply looking at it, Face Access for App-lock, Attention Sensing, PIP mode, and Gaming mode with Gaming keyboard.
The Vivo V9 is priced at Php 17,990USD 307INR 25,988EUR 292CNY 2,233. Pre-order is from March 26 to April 5 with nationwide availability on April 13. You can read our review here.
