5 Winning Features of the OnePlus 5

The OnePlus 5, the company’s newest flagship smartphone and it’s first to sport a dual rear camera setup that is found in other high-end devices. There’s more to it though than the camera technology. Take a look at the five winning features of the OnePlus 5.

Design

The OnePlus 5’s design has been criticized due to its similarities with the iPhone 7 Plus. Still, we can’t deny that it’s a sleek-looking device. It has a rounded design with tapered edges, making the whole device feel thinner than it actually is At 7.25mm thick, it’s the company’s thinnest flagship smartphone to date. The body, on the other hand, is made of anodized aluminum for that premium feel. Color options are limited though to Midnight Black and Slate Gray.

Dual rear camera

The OnePlus 5 is the company’s first smartphone to feature a dual-rear camera setup consisting of a 16MP Sony IMX 398 wide-angle, and a 20MP Sony IMX 350 telephoto. While we’re yet to see for ourselves how the camera performs, the OnePlus 5 boasts a large f/1.7 aperture, a faster shutter speed, portrait mode with Depth effect, and RAW capture. OnePlus also claims that it has 40% faster AF times than the OnePlus 3T.

High-end hardware configuration

OnePlus is known to pack their flagships with powerful hardware and was still able to do so with the OnePlus 5. For starters, it runs the premium-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC, which is then paired with a 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM, and 64/128GB UFS 2.1 2-LANE storage (no microSD card slot though, which is a bummer). That said, you can only expect flagship performance one this smartphone. Not to mention it runs the latest OxygenOS based on Android Nougat.

Battery with Dash Charge

This bit is interesting as the OnePlus 5 carries a slightly smaller battery (3,300mAh) capacity compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 3T (3,400mAh), yet, it claims to have 20% better battery life. Compared to its competitors, it’s the same as the LG G6’s, but larger than the Huawei P10’s (3,200mAh), and Samsung Galaxy S8 (3,000mAh). Another feature is called the Dash Charge which is basically a fast charging feature commonly found in high-end smartphones. OnePlus says it can provide the OnePlus 5 with a day’s power in half an hour.

Low price

Another thing that OnePlus is good at is competitive pricing. With the kind of hardware mentioned above, other smartphone brands will put a hefty USD 700 minimum on their devices. In the Philippines, it would be around Php30K. The OnePlus 5 though starts at USD 479, with the high-end model going for USD 539. It’s not officially available in the Philippines as of writing but online sellers are offering it starting at around Php27K for the base model, and Php32K for the high-end.
