Vivo recently launched in China their latest smartphone that packs a 6.28 Full View display, dual-rear cameras, Snapdragon 660 chipset, and A.I. features – the Vivo X21. Check out its best features below.

One of the things that make the Vivo X21 different from most devices is its display as it virtually covers the whole face of the device with the earpiece and front camera conveniently placed inside a small notch. It has a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED panel with 19:9 aspect ratio which equates to an impressive 90.3% screen-to-body ratio. The resolution is set at Full HD+ (2280 x 1080) which gives it a good pixel density of 402ppi.
Although it’s obvious where the Vivo X21 got its design cues from, we can’t deny that it’s attractive with a curved glass back. It’s also thin at 7.4mm which makes it thinner than the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S9, and light at 156.2g. The X21 comes in Black and White colors, while the X21 UD comes in Black and Red.
Powering the Vivo X21 is Qualcomm’s chipset which was announced last year, the Snapdragon 660. Although a mid-range chip, it comes with features that were exclusive to the Snapdragon 800-series. It has an Adreno 512 GPU, Neural Processing Engine to power A.I features, dual-band WiFi, and Bluetooth 5.0. Heavy users should not worry as it has 6GB of RAM so you can be sure it can handle plenty of background apps. Storage is not an issue as well as the X21 UD comes with 128GB of storage.
As you have noticed, the Vivo X21 comes in two models, the standard X21 and the X21 UD. The difference is that the latter uses the Under Display fingerprint scanner. Vivo has demoed this technology in the Vivo X20 Plus during CES 2018. It’s a cool feature that works well and we hope to see it not just in Vivo smartphones but other devices as well.
Vivo’s recent X-series smartphones come equipped with dual-rear cameras so the X21 shouldn’t be an exception. It uses a 12MP Dual Pixel PDAF main shooter which is accompanied by a 5MP secondary. As for selfies, it comes with a 12MP front camera. These shooters have A.I. Beauty Technology that enhances your portraits that is right for your gender and skin color.
Vivo is stepping up their face unlocking feature with the Face Wake 2.0. It uses a 12MP front camera and IR fill light to create a 3D scan of your face which Vivo says can record 1,024 facial features.
If you like listening to high-quality music on your phone, the Vivo X21 supports Hi-Fi audio with Deep Field sound. Vivo didn’t elaborate much on it but it promises panoramic sound, powerful bass, and clearer voice. Just make sure you have an equally good sound file and headphones to along with it.
The Vivo X21’s software department is run by the company’s FunTouch OS 4.0 which is based on the new Android 8.1 Oreo. It uses a clean and simple to use interface, but what sets it apart from others is Jovi A.I. which is a digital assistant that helps you with your tasks.
The Vivo X21 will be sold in three different variants in China: CNY2,898 (~Php23,900) for the 6GB+64GB variant, CNY3,198 (~Php26,300) for the 6GB+128GB version, and the UD model with the under-display fingerprint scanner will retail for CNY3598 (~Php29,600). There’s no word yet if it will be available in the Philippines.
