Alcatel is also getting into the game of releasing smartphones in the Philippine market that take advantage of the latest LTE band in the country — Band28 or more famously known as the 700MHz. Here’s our first impression of the Alcatel Pixi 4 (5) 4G.
The Pix 4 comes in multiple screen sizes and the (5) moniker indicates that the model has a 5-inch display. It’s a TFT panel from the old smartphone days with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. Like with other similar panels, its viewing angles are limited and not exactly ideal for a screen of this size. There’s a 5-megapixel front camera with a dedicated LED flash for selfies.
Checking the side of the phone will show its two-tone color. Both the buttons for volume and power/lock are situated at the right-hand side.
The top side is where the 3.5mm headphone is. To our surprise, there’s a tiny pinhole for the secondary microphone for noise-cancelling during calls.
The micro-USB port and main microphone are at the bottom end of the phone. It’s somehow unusual these days that the micro-USB port is off centered. It doesn’t hinder performance or anything, just an observation.
The rear panel of the device has a rubbery matte finish giving the user a strong grip when handling the phone. The main 8-megapixel shooter with its single LED flash sits in the middle just above the etched Alcatel branding. The back is removable giving access to the removable 2000mAh battery and card slots.
Ticking inside the phone is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with just 1GB of RAM. Storage-wise, there’s 8GB that’s expandable via a microSD card. The phone has support for the latest Band 28-A of Globe. It boots Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
