Android smartphones you can buy for Php5,990 or less

Now that Nokia has released their Nokia X handset in the Philippine market, the question whether they’ve priced it competitively remains unanswered. In out attempt to do so, here is what we gathered as possible Android smartphones you can get for the price of a Nokia X.

The Nokia X has a 4-inch display, 1.0GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, dual-SIM, and 4GB internal storage. We looked around for handsets that are priced under Php6,000 and here are the ones that made the list.

Samsung Galaxy Star Plus Dual (4-inch, 1GHz, 512MB, 4GB, dual-SIM)
Street Price: Php4,850

Sony Xperia E Dual (3.5-inch, 1GHz, 512MB RAM, 4GB, dual-SIM)
Street Price: Php5,490

Lenovo A516 (4.5-inch, 1.3GHz dual-core, 512MB, 4GB, dual-SIM)
Street Price: Php5,990

LG Optimus L5 II (4-inch, 1GHz, 512MB, 4GB, single SIM)
Street Price: Php5,950

Alcatel One Touch POP C5 (4.5-inch, 1.3GHz dual-core, 512MB, 4GB, single SIM)
Street Price: Php4,999

O+ 8.52 (4-inch, 1GHz dual-core, 512MB, 8GB, dual-SIM)
Street Price: Php5,995

Cherry Mobile Fuze (5-inch, 1.3GHz quad-core, 1GB, 4GB, dual-SIM)
Street Price: Php5,350

MyPhone Agua Hail (5-inch, 1.3GHz dual-core, 512MB, 4GB, dual-SIM)
Street Price: Php3,988

In terms of specs, the Nokia X is better than the Optimus L5 II and the Xperia E Dual but is just the same as the Galaxy Star Plus Dual where it beat the latter in terms of price.

SKK din wala dito sa list. Just not sure about the durability of the brand but upon comparing with the other brands of the same level, this brand is one of the cheapest.

Binigyan ako ng J.O. 83008 nung same day. Alam nyo ba kung kelan ko nakuha? Yung battery replacement?… KAHAPON 22ND OF MARCH 2014!!.. NI WALANG BINIGAY NA TEMP NA PAMALIT MAN LANG KAYA 4 MONTH OLD NA CP KONG BINILI NGAYON KO PA LANG GINAGAMIT!!..

    • denise says:

  5. A says:

I hope next time please include the battery details. nowadays battery is a BIG issue. A smartphone with good specs but not good in battery life is a waste. #justsayin

  6. joa says:

I’ll go for O+ 8.52 Android. It has 8GB internal memory,1GB RAM, and 5MP camera, way better compared to Nokia X. :)

  7. abuzalzal says:

It is essentially an Asha derivative using Android as a disguise to fool people into buying it.

    • abuzalzal says:

Or lemme rephrase what I have just said, this phone is a trap……..

the X line of phones is just a ”gateway” para ma-introduce kayo sa Windows

Tanga lang ang maniniwala at umaasa na magkakaroon ng fully functional Android in the future

      not going to happen hahaha

  8. hahaha says:

    Sony Xperia E1 is better.

  9. Bon says:

The specs of entry phone mostly same. However, the polymer case of nokia x and it’s siblings screams cheapskate and ugly.

Samsung wins this one. Xperia E dual gets second place. And the both have better resale value than this hopeless Nokia phone.

  10. abuzalzal says:

    Ang sarapp umetchas

    flop

    flop

    flop

    ahhhhhhh

  11. MrPhabletBulacan says:

  12. Critic says:

Nokia is obviously testing the waters here. But, if this will fail, will they just /kill any support for this phone?

  13. jeep says:

I guess Nokia X has a win over Samsung’s galaxy star plus dual. the latter only has a single core 1 GHz processor while Nokia X has a dual core one.

  14. lmao says:

Scumbag. Tsk tsk :))))))

    • Abe Olandres says:

@lmao – sorry, I don’t read TCP. The only time I go to that site is when we get traffic from links to stories copied from YugaTech and posted in TCP. That’s why I saw that thread you claimed I copied.

It has always been our policy to give credit when credit is due and you will see that in the link source. We’ve even apologized and corrected many times if we forget to do so.

But for this one, I am sorry to say I did not get it from TCP.

    • lmao says:

      @wew

=D Sus. Talagang Sotto ang dating netong mokong to.

      @Abe

You claim na this was written in the morning of the same day, but this article was POSTED after the post date in TipidCP. Hindi lang to first time na nag-claim ka na “this was written earlier”. Wala naman timestamp mga article mo eh. Date lang. Cge, alibi pa dyan.

    • wew says:

      @lmao anu un?may sinasabe ka? =D

    • Abe Olandres says:

@lmao – not sure where you got that impression. Our story was written in the morning of March 12 while the one in TPC is afternoon of March 12. If there’s someone who copied, it’s not us. We were also the one who got the SRP of the Nokia X from Nokia PH themselves.

Did you check the list first and see if they are the same?

Ours: Alcatel Yours: ZTE Grand X V970
Ours: LG L5 Yours: LG L4
Ours: Galaxy Star Yours: Samsung Galaxy S Duos

No way these two lists are the same.

    • lmao says:

      @wew

Anong walang mali?

Wow. Such plagiarism. Much profit. Very kapal ng mukha!

    • wew says:

    flare HD P5,499?

  16. jonas says:

you can port google play and other google apps in nokia X. check xda-developer forums. nahack na nila ang nokia android phones to make it better

  17. contempo says:

I’d still go for Nokia. Though the likes of Cherry Mobile, Starmobile and the others trump it in terms of specs, Nokia trumps them all in terms of durability and reliability. And yes, aftersales service.

    • Allain says:

    • MrPhabletBulacan says:

You must talking about the candy bar nokia phones of yesteryears and remembering them incorrectly. Nokia x is a half ass attempt to lure people to use windows phones.

  18. Kami says:

    Question,

Is the Nokia X price of less than 6k also street price or the suggested retail price?

If not, then i guess may mali na agad sa comparison.

    Just my 2 cents.

    • Kami says:

      i see sir @Abe,

then i think, buying the Samsung Galaxy Star Plus Dual, Lenovo A516, LG Optimus L5 II or the Alcatel One Touch POP C5, would be a much better option for those brand conscious individuals.

well on my opinion, these brands have better customer support and really a bi “sulit” for our hard earned cash.

    • MrPhabletBulacan says:

Nokia announced the nokia x at mwc to be sold at 80$ (4k pesos) and i dont know why nokia phillippines overcharged here! 5999 was supposed to be the price of the nokia xl model with 5 inch screen, and the nokia x+ middle model was supposed to be only 100$ or 5k after tax etc meaning SRP.

    • Abe Olandres says:

@Kami – the current street price of the Nokia X is also the same as its SRP.

  19. Nice article says:

Now this is a good contextual article. Pinoys need something like this for their consumer needs..

    • MrPhabletBulacan says:

Not really, local companies that rebrands phones from china has already step up their game. Im foreseeing that buying 2 units of cherry mobile life phones will give way longer lifespan, better performance and better ease of usage than buying this overpriced POS..

Out of the box the cheap rebranded phones does google play, no need for teki wizardry and lurking on hacking sites. Cheap rebranded phones are actually durable, ive seen owners of the first cm flare launch models using their phones today and still no problems. As much as i want nokia to be popular again, their stupid pricing and inferior nokia x phones made me realize its not yet time for their philippine low budget mass comeback.

  20. kore says:

    Nokia X all the way.
Or if you want the cheap cherry mobile which is a rebrand chineese phone with poor software update and aftersales support then go for it.

    • Allain says:

      #CherryLowbat

    • anonymous says:

i’ve been using cherry mobile omega hd for more than 2yrs and it is still working perfectly. it is also not true that it has poor aftersales support based on my experience since they are true to their commited date & time and havent experienced any delays

    • passengerticket says:

    • passengerticket says:

Nokia X’s OS is just an Android fork like Amazon’s Kindle Fire which means no Google Play store and services and and other Google goodies. Android games and apps that rely on Google Play Service won’t run on this Nokia flavored Android.

Yes I’m aware of that xda news about gapps successfully installed on this phone. Hence, if you know where to go and not afraid to brick your phone, get this phone. This is a Nokia phone period.

  21. JD3 says:

Correction po, Alcatel C5 has dual SIM :)

    • JD3 says:

Mention ko lang Gionee P3. 5K lang 4.3 inches with Quadcore SOC and decent 5MP Camera.
