ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Review

Performance and Benchmarks

Running an Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor paired with a generous 4GB of RAM works really well with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Navigation and transitions is smooth and snappy. Apps and games run just fine and multitab browsing on Chrome is effortless.

Here are the test results of the benchmarks we ran on the unit:

  • AnTuTu: 48,697 (non-verified)
  • Quadrant Standard: 11,621
  • Vellamo: 1,502 (Multicore), 1,468 (Metal), 3,489 (Chrome Browser)
  • 3DMark: 20,211 (Ice Storm Unlimited)
  • PCMark: 5,618

The benchmark scores we got on the Deluxe were noticeably higher than the ZE551ML, except when we ran Quadrant Standard. Do take note that we made sure the software has the latest update before running the tests so as to fully utilize the components of the device.

Connectivity and Call Quality

Just like the other Zenfone 2 , the Deluxe has a dual-SIM capability with LTE support. While only the first micro-SIM slot supports connectivity up to 4G, the second micro-SIM slot can only handle up to 2G.

LTE connectivity is pretty string with multiple speed tests on different locations yielding 13Mbps downlink speeds (using Smart LTE postpaid SIM). Calls are clear and crisp on both SIM cards while SMS handling for the dual-SIM functionality is very easy to get used to.

Battery Life

As for battery life nominal tests, we managed to get 9 hours and 44 mintutes from a full charge using our standard battery bench at 50% brightness and 0% volume playing a Full HD movie. The Deluxe lasted an hour longer compared to the ZE551ML that only managed to stay up for around hours. Upon running PCMark’s battery test, we were able to squeeze out 7 hours and 8 minutes on the device.

The Zenfone 2 Deluxe also supports fast charging using BoostMaster technology. The adaptor that came in the box can pump as much as 2A @ 5V and 9V of juice which results to a charging time of just 2.5 to 2.75 hours to 100%.

Conclusion

The Zenfone 2 Deluxe is a testament that the company can still push the envelope and deliver better performance than the ZE551ML which is already a solid performer. With a more attractive look thanks to its unique back cover and storage space that will give you freedom from worrying  whether you have memory left, the Deluxe is a great handset to have around and will no doubt handle the tasks you throw its way.
