ASUS ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL) scores 90 on DxOMark

Typically, DxOMark leaderboards are dominated by flagship smartphones, but today, the ASUS ZenFone 5 joins their ranks with an overall score of 90.

In a test summary from DxOMark, the ZenFone 5 scored 93 in the Photo department.

Pros:

  • Good dynamic range in bright light
  • Fast, accurate, and repeatable autofocus
  • Has nicely rendered detail and textures in bright light
  • Accurate white balance in most situations

Cons: 

  • Fusion artifacts in HDR scenes
  • Image corruption (orange blocks) on some rare occasions
  • Quite noticeable noise in the sky, even in bright light
  • Loss of detail and chroma noise in flash images
  • Depth artifacts, color casts, and exposure inaccuracies in bokeh mode

As for the Video department, the device got a score of 86.

Pros:

  • Generally accurate target exposure
  • Fairly good white balance in bright light and indoor conditions
  • Decent stabilization in static outdoor scenes

Cons: 

  • Quite noticeable levels of luminance noise, especially in low light
  • Loss of detail in all light conditions
  • Frequent refocusing while panning or walking during recording
  • Cyan shift (same as blue sky saturation) in the sky in high-contrast scenes

For a midrange smartphone, this is definitely an impressive feat considering that it is placed on the 11th, just below the Apple iPhone 8, in the overall DxOMark scores. The Zenfone 5 (ZE620KL) is priced Php19,995. You can check our review for the device here.
