ASUS recently launched not one but two flagship smartphones, the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip. What we have here is the latter, packing a 6.67-inch FHD+ display, a 5,000mAh battery, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G, and a flip camera with three image sensors. Check out our initial thoughts on the device below.
Once you hold the Zenfone 8 Flip, you can immediately tell that it’s a premium device, thanks to its aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 6 on the front, and Gorilla Glass 3 at the back. Our unit has the Galactic Black colorway but it is also available in Glacier Silver. The back shines depending on the angle of the lighting and looks like brushed aluminum. Also, at the back, we’ll find the ASUS Zenfone Branding and the cameras, which is the reason why this device is called the “Flip.”
On the left side, we’ll find the dual-SIM tray with a dedicated microSD card slot.
While on the right are the power and volume buttons.
Up top is a noise-canceling microphone.
Below we have the LED indicator, USB Type-C port, main microphone, and loudspeaker.
At 230g, the Zenfone 8 Flip feels hefty but robust. It’s also a tall device, but we’re glad to report that we didn’t have had any trouble reaching its buttons even though we have small hands.
The display features a 6.67-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED panel with 2400 x 1080 resolution or equal to 395ppi. Quality is good as it is bright and produces punchy colors with enough detail. And because of the camera design, there’s no notch or hole punch for a more immersive viewing experience.
For cameras, the Zenfone 8 Flip packs a triple camera setup in a flipping module. It houses the 64MP F1.8 main camera, 8MP F2.4 telephoto, and a 12MP F2.2 ultra-wide. We did have some fun with its flipping camera, but we’ll reserve that in our full review. But for now, check out these sample shots.
Powering the Zenfone 8 Flip is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor coupled with an Adreno 660 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB storage. For battery, this device comes with a huge 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. Software-wise, it runs on the latest Android 11 skinned with ZenUI 8. This device can handle everything we throw at it, from basic tasks to heavy multitasking and playing graphically intensive games. We’ll put this device to the test, so stay tuned for our full review.
The Zenfone 8 Flip is priced at PHP 39,995USD 682INR 57,777EUR 649CNY 4,963 for the 8GB + 256GB variant and is available for pre-order until June 10, 2021. So, what do you guys think about the Zenfone 8 Flip? Is it a YAY! or a NAY!? Let us know in the comments section below!
