Finally! Updated my 9300 to OS 6 :D Followed some of the steps mentioned before but may additional step for ones that don’t have any active BB service :D
aeroegz says:
“You can do an update without an active subscription by doing a “stealth” os reload…”
You can do an update without an active subscription by doing a “stealth” OS reload. Delete the Vendor.xml file located at c:program filescommon filesresearch in motionapploader Run Loader.exe from that directory. Pull the battery from your device, and put it back in. Plug in the BB and IMMEDIATELY click the “next” button – here`s where you want to make sure the port shows USB: UNKNOWN. If it shows the PIN, you were too slow. Try again. Basically, you`re loading an OS from the bottom up. There is no “backup/restore” available for this. You`ll lose everything on the device. But it will work.
jp says:
ano ung step na additional for non bb service subscribers?

go to program files >> common file >> research in motion >> Apploader >> open LOADER
then click next next next next– finish
****note: you should HAVE an ACTIVE subscription to BB SERVICES in order for the update to be installed.

When will this be available for Macs? I guess I can install it on my PC but I prefer keeping my backup in my Mac.
luiboowee says:
After upgrading you did not find Social Feeds app? Follow this:
1. Run apploader.exe (found in the same folder of vendor.xml)
2. Follow instructions and find Social Feeds Application (or its closest word/s), you may also tick YouTube Application and other applications you want to include and/or exclude.
3. Click next, and it will prompt you to back up and upgrade.
** the Desktop Software upgrade do not include the Social Feeds app, so you have to ‘manually’ install it after upgrading. Well, if you were lucky and Social Feeds app was already there after you upgrade, well… you are lucky. Hehe.

After I updated by BB 9700 to OS 6, some wallpapers are not displayed upon scrolling. :(:(
gelopots says:
here’s what worked for me. i’m a BB Curve 3G user.
1. use v6 of BB desktop software
2. download the OS6 software
3. connect your device via USB and check on the BB desktop software that an update is available.
4. make sure to backup your files.
5. close the BB desktop software. do not disconnect your device.
6. delete “vendor.xml”
7. run “app loader.exe” this should take around 30 mins.
8. tada! it’s a whole new BB! now just restore all your data and you’re all set.
Miro Enriquez says:
After installing OS 6 to my laptop, i followed this instruction and it worked! but in my bb I just took 10mins. it was so fast.

Thanks very much Luibowee!
luiboowee says:
Upgrade will take more than 40 mins. Patience required. :)
luiboowee says:
Very important instructions before you upgrade:
1. BlackBerry Desktop Software should be updated first. It used to be known as a desktop manager. It should be v.6 as well.
2. After “installing” OS6, go to C:/ProgramFiles/CommonFiles/ResearchInMotion/AppLoader, then delete the vendor.xml file (I don’t know why, but it is consistent to other instructions found online) <– this made the trick, you need to delete it.
3. Open your updated BlackBerry Desktop Software, it SHOULD now detect the new OS and ask you to upgrade then follow the instructions there.
Mine is already working. Yehey!
JP says:

i’ve installed the desktop manager and the OS for 9300, but the desktop manager cannot detect the new OS even though i’ve deleted the vendor.xlm..please HELP… :(
Pingmarfori says:
This worked for me! Thanks!
luiboowee says:
I’m trying it now, discovered this:
1. Google: BlackBerry Software Download for Globe Telecom (try Smart Communications for Smart users, I guess)
2. The BlackBerry site should say: Software Download for Globe Telecom, Inc. and Welcome Globe Customers. (or Smart, maybe)
3. Choose your handset from the drop down menu
4. Place your credentials, click next.
5. Confirm
6. Download. The file is around 178 MB so if you have slow internet connection, it will take about 30 mins to download.
I still have to install it or something to try. Im still downloading as of the moment. Soooo excited! hehe.
disappointed says:
i downloaded the file but it doesnt work it says error
Bob Reyes says:
What’s the precise error message?
pol says:
“error loading initialization form”
Bob Reyes says:
Perhaps your download of the file is not yet complete. It’s somewhere around 175MB to 180MB. Please check.
I just upgraded my Bold 9700 to the official OS6 (been running the leaked OS6 for months now), and the whole process took me around 30 minutes only.
poch says:
thanks a lot for your tip
Chie says:
I had mine updated last January 2011. I saw Pia Magalona’s tweet that day that this version is already out and that she tried it herself and it worked for her BB. I also tried it by connecting my curve 3G to my pc and it did upgrade my phone.
luiboowee says:
How? I tried it via the BlackBerry Software Update tool, but it says no update is available. I also tried Wireless Update through Options tool of my handset and still no update is available. I also tried using the new BlackBerry Desktop application (the one we use to back up, sync, or use it as modem), still no update is available.
HB says:
No Update Available. You make me want it badly. tsk tsk
disappointed says:
i tried to update my bb 9700 but its not yet available… please confirm before posting.. i wasted time trying to download… very disappointed
luiboowee says:
Don’t even bother. It is not yet available for the Philippines. Haaaay, just wasted of time. Sana ni-confirm muna before ni-post to.
Bob Reyes says:
I checked the BlackBerry downloads site and the upgrade to OS6 for Bold 9700 is available for both Smart & Globe subscribers. Just go to http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/ click on Downloads from the left side navigation and look for Access your service provider download site (http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp)

What’s the price of BB9700 this year?
BB phones are lacking of front facing camera, which makes skype useless.
Jesse Panganiban says:
The bigger problem is that there’s no official skype release for the BB 9700. The only supported BB models are the only ones carried by Verizon. :(
sherwood says:
Yeah, So sad na wala pang Skype for BlackBerry users unlike sa Apple..
