Research in Motion today announced the launching of the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 in the Philippines. The Curve 3G is an update to the popular and more affordable BB Curve 8520.
The Curve 9300 3G replaces the Curve 8520 which now supports faster 3G connectivity and will be available via local carriers this November.
BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 specs:
2.46″ screen @ 320×240 pixels
256 MB internal memory
3G/HSDPA
up to 32GB via microSD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1
2MP camera
GPS w/ aGPS support
Li-Ion 1150mAh battery
Aside from the connectivity update, there’s nothing much new to this handset but makes it a bit closer to the more expensive BlackBerry Bold 9700. As for the design, it’s the same form factor although the back panel has been changed from leather pattern to pimpled surface.
The units they showed today still have the BlackBerry OS 5.0 but RIM execs tell us it is version 6.0 ready so once the OS is ready, it should be easy to update the handsets via OTA, including the Bold 9700. Unfortunately, the Curve 8520 will not support version 6.0.
As for product pricing, RIM is leaving it up to the carriers to announce the retail price. Heard Globe is getting first dibs. The Curve 3G should go between Php15k to Php20k.

Vera says:

I’m a new bb convert, just got my Curve two weeks ago from Globe. Not heartbroken that I didn’t wait for this 3G version then. :)
Abe Olandres says:
@tipler – in fact, it’s a hot item nowadays.
purple_banana says:

tiksyon says:
@yuga – u got that right, i got one for my gf…ill get this for me :D Merry Christmas!
monl says:
Still torn between BB9700 and iPhone 4. Of course, iPhone 4 has a huge advantage in terms of apps, but nothing beats BB when it comes to email and SMS (typing) functionality. As for other stuff, I’m not so sure. Data compression? Nothing that Unlisurf can’t handle. Tethering? Myfi.
Anyone please give me more reason to choose BB over iPhone :)
Harley says:
hmmmm…still loving my current BB! I will look into another BB when the torch is much much much lower! hehehe!
i love blackberry!
LagaoLugaw says:
kinda expensive if it’s going to be priced near 20k. Around 15k would be good.
markster says:
i don’t understand.. This BB is already available the market since September.. Are you guys referring to the Curve 9330 which is a CDMA phone??..
purple_banana says:
They are selling this for 19,500 in ATC.
jon says:
what’s with the black berry?
Manny says:
@monl, my wife and i got new sets lately, she’s got the BB, i got the iphone4. We’re both enjoying the 2 sets. But iphone i feel is more for personal use while the BB is for business. Been trying to convince my wife that we exchange phones, but she wont let go.
purple_banana says:
Once you go black(berry), you can’t go back!
Kimikol says:
Sir Yuga, I think you need to change the Title of the article? It says, “BlackBery … “
walang imik says:
naku kumusta namn web browsing,,, ung 9700 ko medyo mabagal compare to my nokia e63, mas okay ang nokia pag dating sa web browsing..
walang imik says:
wonder why my bb9700 dont have gps and map?
bakit kaya?
Harley says:
@walang imik baka di pa up-to-date yong OS mo. try to and it would surely be there! go na!
peace!
Abe Olandres says:
@markster – it’s grey market unit and does not have official warranty from RIM. A lot of products are available in the market way before they are officially launched.
Whatif says:
Dami bb users nasa denial stage… joke lang peace po.
bong says:
bb are getting stale. Forget the torch my friend has one but he is not happy with it. It was slow and always crashing.
wreek888 says:
whats with 3g if you already have curve 8520? no need to upgrde.
monl says:
@Manny I feel the same way, too, about BB being for business and iPhone being for personal use. In fact, that’s mainly how the two are differentiated. I guess one will just have to choose if he wants a tool or a toy :)
markster says:
Thanks for the enlightenment master Yuga!
@wreek888: it’s worth the upgrade, you’ll get the benefit of 3G, Wireless N, GPS, and OS 6!.. :)
leemar says:
useless naman ang 3g dto sa pinas, sobra limit ng coverage so ok na yun 8520, dto nga sa bahay inconsistent ang 3g signal eh.
The Great Romances says:
San nakakabili ng murang BB?
bench says:
im working here uae @fono…our price for this phone is 1329dhs so mga 15k yan sa pinas…one month ago na yan samin..
allan says:
i think the main advantage of the 9300 over the 8520 is not it is 3G but that the BB 9300 can be upgraded to BB OS6.
w/c i think is worth the wait.
patrick says:
is this thing out already? anyone know where i can get this at 12mo. 0% interest?
Simon says:
i expected to have at least upgraded camera MP, i almost want to buy one.. but now i still enjoy my samsung wave, they have a software where you can make your own theme, i put a sample on my site http://bit.ly/aJKPxI
SandyCheeks says:
Uhh, Mr. Yuga, I have a question
Does the blackbery curve 3G have like, the chat-kind of SMS?
I’ve been dying to want a blackberry but dang, my mom said it ain’t worth the price, but I don’t think so. :))
I’ve been looking for a good phone that’s got chat-view SMS like the iPhone cause the same old kind of SMS is so old school in my opinion. :))
Kaloy says:
I want to know if this phone can open, edit or create a new MS Office files. since am always on the go, I download lots of emails (mostly MS excel), i want to open and edit them right away. is this possible?
