Just before we set out to Macau for our holiday getaway, the Cherry Mobile has lend us their upcoming budget smartphone; the CM Flare HD. We brought along the handset to our trip so we can immediately share with you our first impression.
Cherry Mobile’s Flare lineup has always been a crowd pleaser because of its reasonable setup and dirt cheap price tag. The latest addition to the gang, the Flare HD, is no different than the rest sporting a pretty decent hardware configuration and a price tag that’s said to be cheaper than the CM Apollo.
Design-wise, isn’t exactly an eye-catching device. However, the lack of “flare” (pun intended) in the design department actually bode well for the handset. The minimalist design, uncluttered button layout and the non-glossy back panel makes the Flare HD a joy to hold and use.
Apart from the volume rocker located at the left side, all of the main components of the Flare HD are found at the top which consists of audio jack, micro-USB port and Power/Sleep button. On the other side are the speaker grill and 12MP camera and the accompanying flash unit.
Underneath the back panel are the usual suspects which includes a trio of slots for two full-sized SIM card slots and Micro-SD card, as well as the Flare HD’s 1800mAh power pack.
Cherry Mobile Flare HD specs:
4.3-inch HD IPS display, 1280×720 @342ppi
1.2GHz MTK6589 quad-core processor
PowerVR SGX544MP GPU
1GB RAM
Expandable 4GB internal memory
12MP camera w/LED flash
5MP front-facing camera
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0 with A2Dp support
GPS w/ A-GPS
Dual-SIM, Dual Standby
Android 4.2 Jellybean
1,800mAh battery
From what we saw with the CM Flare HD, we have to say that it’s by far the best Flare that the Cherry Mobile has rebranded. Kudos to them for picking this handset from the bunch.
As mentioned before, this handset is due to make its debut early next year and will be priced somewhere between the Flare 2X and the CM Apollo. Our full review of the Cherry Mobile Flare HD should be ready in the next coming days, so stay tuned for that.

a quick review of the articles regarding this phone lead to the following questions:
1. given the possible price point is PhP 5,000 – what are the compromises they did to reach the price point?
2. Is it safe to assume that it doesn’t include any screen protection such gorilla glass or dragon tail?
3. A big letdown is the small battery capacity. are there other options?

Hi, it’s “methinks”, not “me thinks”. That is all.

1,800 mAh powering a 4.3 -inch screen is just ”Ok” me thinks, definitely A LOT BETTER than a 1080p + 2000 mAh combo
As for the compromises, I see no sign of a LED notification (which is a big plus sa Apollo)
Ewan ko lang kung dual 3G/HSPA++ din ito, kasi sa Apollo, 3G + Cellular lang
