Cherry Mobile held a Christmas party for the media last night and one of their surprises is a limited edition smartphone that sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display, MediaTek Helio X27 deca-core CPU, and dual 13MP Sony rear cameras, the Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Premium Limited Edition. Check out our initial thoughts on the device below.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the color. It comes in metallic red which is eye-catching especially when lights hit it. It sports a metal unibody that curves to the sides for easier grips and a seamless feel. The rear design reminds us of the OnePlus 5 or the OPPO R11, which is not a bad thing.
On the front is the 5.5-inch Full HD display which equates to 401ppi and mounted with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Above it are the 13MP front camera, earpiece, notifications light, and LED flash. Down below is the capacitive Home button that also doubles as the fingerprint sensor.
On the right are the power/lock and volume buttons, while on the left is the hybrid SIM slot that accepts nano-sized SIM cards.
Up top, we have the 3.5mm audio port, while down at the bottom are the microphone, USB Type-C port, and loudspeaker.
Flip it on its back and you will find the dual 13MP cameras, quad-LED flash, microphone and a couple of antenna bands. Also noticeable here is the Cherry Mobile branding and, since it’s a limited edition, the name of the owner. Numbers are also printed below to indicate the number in the batch. In this case, this is number 38 of the total 500 units.
In the hands, the Flare S6 Premium, as the name suggests, feels and looks premium. It’s solid, doesn’t exhibit any creaking parts, and has a decent heft to it. To add to that “premium” factor, the package includes a plastic case with a faux leather material at the back, a USB-C to micro USB adapter, extra screen protector, and red USB-C cable.
Powering, the device is a MediaTek Helio X27 deca-core CPU clocked at 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat which is almost stock and doesn’t sport the Cherry OS. A quick AnTuTu benchmark revealed a score of 81,382 which is good for a mid-ranger.
Now for the bad news. As mentioned, the Flare S6 Premium is a limited edition smartphone and is only offered to Cherry Mobile’s partners and endorsers. In other words, you won’t find this in stores. But let’s hope Cherry Mobile releases a new batch for their fans.
