Yesterday, CM officially unveiled the Cherry Mobile Urban; a 4.5-inch smartphone powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor and which also happens to be one of the first local handset that runs Android KitKat right off the bat.
Cherry Mobile Urban specs:
4.5-inch qHD IPS display@ 960×540 pixels 245ppi
MediaTek MT6582 1.3GHz quad-core CPU
1GB RAM
Expandable 4GB internal storage
3G/HSPA+
Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0
Miracast support
GPS w/ A-GPS
8MP rear camera
2MP front-facing camera
1,700mAh battery
Android 4.4 KitKat
Based on specs sheet, the new CM Urban just seems like your typical budget-centric smartphone, apart from the fact that it runs on Android Kitkat right out of the box.
If you’re really particular about the software, then the Cherry Mobile Urban may seem like a good buy for Php4,699. However, you might want to hold on a bit longer for our full review because the longevity of its 1700mAh battery is rather questionable.

Sana gawin naman nila standard yung 2gb ram sayang ang quad core kubg bitin naman babagal lang din tapus 4gb storage. Pasok sa banga yun
CM Urban vs CM Axis…
you bet..
Good specs for mid users pero for mukhang olats sa batt life. Quadcore for 1700mAh :(
Mukhang malakas magbenta ng powerbank ang CM.
I bought this at the Cherry Mobile store at SM Sta Mesa last Tuesday. Quick thoughts:
– Bought for my non-techie wife who refuses to bring her charger and usb cable with her, good battery life if not utilizing the dual sim (one micro sim and 1 normal sim slot) feature, the 3g and wifi connection 7/10
– quadcore specs wont prevent stuttering and audio issues when playing 720p mp3 movies from yify.
– after purchasing, a OTA software update was immediately made available from Cherry Mobile
– No option to uninstall bloatware to increase the approximately 2.5GB free space (disable mode only), so far unable to move downloaded apps to microSD storage
– Even with the KitKat update, there is a need to install latest versions of Hangouts, Play Books and Newsstand. Unfortunately default Camera app is not KitKat camera app. I decided to disable this and use the Kitkat camera app instead. 3/10
– No available jelly case or screen protector yet from Cherry Mobile store. User replaceable battery is 1700mAH, PhP400 according to the CM store. 4/10
– Camera app would only allow 8megapixel 5:4 ratio photos. Next best option for resolution is 4megapixels. Front camera is 2megapixels. Even using the Kitkat Camera app, photos are susceptible to camera shake. Best use of camera, outdoor shots and very-well lighted scenes. 5/10
– Voip calls over wifi are clear (Skype, BBM) 8/10
– UI experience is very good, although installing alternative launchers seem to make the phone laggy. 5/10
– Touchscreen is responsive, display is decent enough but is still not comparable to IPS screens with the same resolution. Backlight bleeding is very minimum though
Kung nagdagdag ka na lang ng 300 at binili mo Spectrum mapapanood mo pa ng mabuti ang mga 720p videos.
Masabi lang na naka-Kitkat? Pero mukhang magandang pang-selfie ha…2MP ang front camera.
KitKat is a good OS compared to Jellybean, mas stable at mas compatible sa small memory phones. Ang issue na lang siguro is the hardware and kung maraming dinagdag sa UI ang cherry mobile na kakain sa 4gb internal memory. If not then it’s a good deal para sa mga tight ang budget.
Do you have a list of like top 5 phones for different categories (budget, midrange, highend) that’s being maintained?
