I really thought it will come to this. Some time back, I read in a newspaper (guess it was a Malaysian daily since I was in Penang that time) that some South African abalone divers are being monitored by the local authorities. So to avoid being captured, they’ll have someone on the lookout that would send them text messages while they’re under the water diving for the shells. The best way to protect their mobile phones underwater was by wrapping them with condoms.
I thought there’s a potentially lucrative business idea in there. Apparently, some Dutch guy already thought of it and calls it Skins Mobile protectors. He’s already planning on shipping them to Britain with packs selling between £2.99 to £5.99. Pretty cheap, huh?
Now, a guy can go to the store, buys a pack of condoms and tells the cashier it’s for his N95.
Great info. Lucky me I ran across your website by accident
(stumbleupon). I’ve book-marked it for later!
You can find Skins in the US at www.skinsmobileusa.com. They are an awesome cellphone protecting device. I run a laundry service and my workers don’t have to worry about getting grease or oil on their cellphone keys any longer.
WIKI… that there’s no such thing as small and medium size condoms? it is just large and XL? :-)
N95… Number 95? ;-)
ma try nga sa 5110
oh.. i need to buy more condoms. hehe
@ Migs – you can tie the open end with rubber bands so it can be really water proof. :)
We’ve been calling those phone protectors, the silicone ones in particular, as ‘condoms’ for our mobile phones since those things became popular.
And the cashier will maliciously reply:
” N95? Is that the new term for ****? “
I really liked the last line. Pretty funny.
anyways, I think these condoms can be effective. Have you tried stretching a condom before, it would take more than just a small amount of force to tear it.
Whenever I’m in the province, riding a pump boat, I usually just put my cellphone in one of those cellophanes used for softdrinks.. You know, the kind that you find sa mga sari sari stores…
That’s waterproof enough for me..
Could that possibly make the phone waterproof? Maybe it’s just water resistant against splashes and short dunks in the sink.
To Abe and all my Filipino bloggers,
I’m doing a writing project regarding the recent murder of Musa Dimasidsing, the district supervisor who was shot dead, he was the election official who exposed the election fraud and other anomalies in Maguindanao.
I hope you can join the the writing project and write a blog post on your reaction, I will link to your post, and I will collect the links everyday and post them up on a single blog post. This starts Wednesday up until Sunday.
You can read about the writing project on my recent post and also find out how you can join. I hope everyone can join, and let’s make our voices heard, let’s stand up for the heroism of Musa and hope that his death does not go in vain.
i’ve also known this thing before, but it’s not effective for clamshell types… is it, now?
