We’re literally a few days away from the local launch of OPPO‘s brand new F9, and we’re getting more and more details from the cyberspace as the days come near. In this Fast Five, we’re looking at some of the top features to look forward to with the new mid-range smartphone.
We’re taking in a lot of rumor articles from various sources in completing this one. Take these with a grain of salt until all has been made official.
Table of Contents
OPPO has managed to squeeze in its notch this time and offers a smaller display cutout that’s almost similar to the Sharp Aquos R Compact or the Essential Phone. It’s expected to at least sport a Full HD+ resolution just like its predecessor, with the 6.3-inch display engulfing the whole front part with a 90.8-percent screen to body ratio. This may also be one of first devices in the market to sport the new Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
The design has also changed — it now features carved backs and the company calls this a Flower Petal design. There are two gradient colors to choose from (Sunrise Red and Twilight Blue). A third color called the Starry Purple has also made an appearance in several OPPO countries and is deemed to be the series’ best design with a mineral shine that gives twinkle over the purple gradient.
This time around, the selfie smartphone company is putting in two rear cameras on the F9 and its beefier sibling called the F9 Pro. As shown in this official tweet from the company, the dual rear cameras take pride in taking better bokeh shots, which suggest that the dual camera may be meant for depth of field. OPPO Malaysia confirms the dual rear cameras to be a pair of 16MP and 2MP modules.
Its 25-megapixel selfie camera also adds in an HDR feature, which could be really helpful in better front camera shots.
Fast charging is something we don’t see in most mid-range phones, but OPPO is changing the game by offering its VOOC Charging along with the F9 — a first in the series.
That means you can actually charge your phone faster while not worrying about having it fried, so expect better charging times compared to the F7 or even the F7 Youth.
Recent stories from various publications have concluded one fact: The F9 won’t be much different from the F7 in terms of hardware on board. The device may still sport Mediatek’s Helio P60 chip, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable internal storage.
The Helio P60 is deemed to be a good option for gamers and multitaskers alike based on our F7 review, so it’s no shocker that the same chip will power their next F-series phone.
If we’re looking at market trends, the OPPO F9 may sport a price that may be near the F7 SRP when it was first launched in the market. With the F7 getting a drastic price cut in anticipation of the new phone’s arrival, expect the newest selfie phone in town to sport a price between Php16,000 to Php20,000.
That’s it for a quick roundup on OPPO’s newest phone coming to town. Do you have any price guesses? Let us know down the comments section.
