Finally gave in to the Nokia 6233

Last Friday, I finally bought a new 3G phone. I initially wanted to get the Nokia N73 as it looks really nice but the feature-set wasn’t that impressive for its price. Yeah, there’s that nice megapixel camera but I don’t need one on a phone. The only other feature I really liked about it was the horizontal view — good for internet browsing.

But alas, it was slower than my old and buggy N3230 so I ditched it. Next in line was the N6233. I just wanted 3G capability and for only Php12,900 (cash) it was a steal for me. See full specs here.

Nokia 6233

Haven’t fully discovered all the functionalities of this one but my initial impression was great. The phone was surprisingly fast, with almost unnoticeable delays in loading the basic texting or calling functions.

Got this one at MOA. Will post a more detailed review once I’ve tested all the neat features.

P.S.
Smart’s OTA setup of GRPS/3G settings isn’t supported yet so I had to call *888 support to get their tech guys to give me the settings, which until now, 72 hours later, still hasn’t arrived.

Slow 3G Internet speed is due to the Taiwan earthquake.

    I got a 6233 recently.
For some reason, GPRS and 3G are slow via SMART.
    Anybody have the same problem?

Got one one too. Its right for the price and utility wise. S 60 deficiency is something that irsk you a bit with no application base to look for. I had it going with my zyb.com account and had all my info back which once used to sit on my ol’ pal 6230. There is something in design :)

Also, don’t you miss out on the Series 60 browser on the 3rd edition phones?

No, that would be the Nokia 5500 Sport. They had a launch last Saturday at Rockwell.

i’ll be waiting for 4-8 gb phones by then most new 3g phones price will go down hehe… I still use a beat up 3660 (I didn’t prioritize on buying a new phone). I might buy a new one by next year or after that. hirap bumili eh, the price goes down so fast na feeling mo lugi ka haha then by that time you want kick yourself for not waiting.

I can’t wait for the review of n6233..

Oh yeah! I am also not sure if it’s you that’s why I did not get your attention, :D

Now I remember, that was after Typhoon Milenyo swept Metro Manila :D

    @ Migs

I was frustrated my my N3230 being slow so i don’t want the same with the N73. The 6233 is really faster.

    @ Arbet

Yeah I did, but not the 3G settings. I had to go to Smart Wireless Center so they can set it manually.

    @ Carlo

Did we saw each other at Starbucks, Bluewave a month ago? I think you and your friend were buying an AA load then. I was seated next to you. Wasn’t sure though.

I used to have N70 and for me 6233 is better. N70 loads applications so slow. Even its basic calling/messaging features.

I think this is a good decision, symbian OS is really buggy

“Perhaps they will fix that is future firmware upgrades” – @Miguel, I don’t think so, the N70 has gone through 2 firmware upgrades already but nothing has changed, they only fixed language bugs and the like :D

Hi, have you tried ordering the settings from Nokia?

    http://nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,78317,00.html

This is free; I’m not sure if it is reliable enough. When I tried downloading 7710 settings from Nokia, true enough, I had received the settings. Give it a try.

The N73 is “slower than my old and buggy N3230?” Yikes! It’s expensive too. I was planning to get one for my future travels since I don’t have a dedicated cam anyway. Perhaps they will fix that in future firmware upgrades.

But, another commenter (ade?) said it was good?

How does the 6233 compare with N70? (Series60 apps is one of course…)
