Geekbench recently announced that it has delisted the Galaxy S22, S21, S20, and S10 series of smartphones due to a feature that throttles apps.
The feature being pointed out is Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service (GOS) which throttles the performance of games and apps. Geekbench says that GOS decides to throttle (or not throttle) applications using application identifiers and not application behavior.
Geekbench views this as a form of benchmark manipulation as major benchmark applications, including Geekbench, are not throttled by this service.
After extensive internal testing Geekbench has determined the following Samsung Galaxy handsets use GOS and have delisted them from the Android Benchmark chart on the Geekbench Browser.
- Samsung Galaxy S22 (all models)
- Samsung Galaxy S21 (all models)
- Samsung Galaxy S20 (all models)
- Samsung Galaxy S10 (all models)
Geekbench has also tested several Galaxy Note handsets, including the Note10 and Note20, and didn’t find any evidence of throttling.
Earlier this week, we were made aware of Samsung's Game Optimizing Service (GOS) and how it throttles the performance of games and applications. GOS decides to throttle (or not to throttle) applications using application identifiers and not application behavior.
