Performance and Benchmarks
Sporting a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor, PowerVR G6200 GPU, and 3GB RAM, the Elife E8 is a powerful mobile machine that can handle almost all tasks you can throw at it. We played games, shot photos and videos, browsed our social media feeds, played YouTube videos, and it didn’t stutter one bit even when we didn’t clear its RAM from background tasks. Take a look at the benchmark scores below.
* AnTuTu v6.0.1 – 57,824
* Quadrant Standard – 31,690
* Vellamo – 2,375 (Multicore), 1,653 (Metal), 2,604 (Chrome)
* Ice Storm Unlimited – 16,007
* Gaming Temp – 43-C
The only downside we see here is the gaming temperature. It’s noticeably warm but tolerable, and it’s something to be expected of a powerful device with this kind of task.
Connectivity and Call Quality
The Elife E8 is loaded with connectivity features, from dual-SIM (micro), LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC. Gionee even included free NFC tags in the package. Mobile data and call quality are good as it latches on to networks with ease while voice calls are loud and clear on both ends.
Battery Life
Such specs come with a price. In the case of the Elife E8, it’s the battery life. Although it sports a 3,520mAh battery, it’s not enough for a 6-incher with this configuration. In the PC Mark battery bench, it only lasted for 6 hours and 42 minutes, while on our standard video loop test (Airplane mode, 1080p video, 50% brightness and volume with headset plugged in) it lasted for 7 hours and 30 minutes.
On the bright side, you can extend your battery life by taking advantage of the power management features inside – Standby intelligent power saving, Power saving mode, and Extreme power saving mode.
Conclusion
Gionee has a powerful device in the form of the Elife E8. It has a great build and looks, generous 6-inch AMOLED display, good camera and performance, and really nice speakers. It’s a multimedia powerhouse and a strong Android gaming device that would satisfy a lot of users.
On the downside, the battery is below average for a device of this caliber. It’s also expensive at Php23,999 which might make those who are on a tight budget to consider other Helio X10-powered options, namely the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Meizu MX5, or the Sony Xperia M5.
