There’s 4G LTE on-board as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS w/ A-GPS support. The FM Radio is also available but, as always, it needs you to plug in a pair of earphones to act as the antenna. The earpiece is easy to hear during calls while the microphone performs well in most environments despite the lack of noise-cancelling feature.
Wirelessly, there’s nothing fancy about the S Plus, but when it comes to wired connection, it’s ahead of the crop. The USB on the S Plus is a Type-C port which is the latest design for USBs and it eliminates the hassle of inserting on the wrong side since it’s a reversible port. It’s a bummer that Gionee has not pushed further to make it a 3.0 version for faster speeds, nevertheless, it’s cool to have a Type-C port in this range. Also, you might need to invest in Type-C accessories soon.
Gionee S Plus gets its juice from a 3150 Li-Ion battery. The battery itself is fairly big and the fact that it’s a removable cell makes it more likable.
PCMark battery test endured for 9 hours and 19 minutes. While our traditional battery test composed of a looped silent 1080p video w/ half brightness and in airplane mode was able to squeeze 11 hours and 7 minutes.
At the end of the day, it’s not hard to like the Gionee S Plus. With its AMOLED display, smooth performance, generous 3GB RAM, ample battery juice, and the modern USB Type-C port, you’re getting a package smartphone designed to last and future proof. Although, being an early adopter of the Type-C port could mean an adjustment when borrowing chargers or data cables from friends. But hey, yours is reversible and it’s cool. The S Plus has an SRP of Php9,995.
