Google’s Nearby Share has been out for 2 years now and Android users have rejoiced. But despite being a feature that we’ve all wanted to come to Android, it hasn’t caught on to AirDrop in popularity and utility just yet.
But Google is continuing to make the feature simpler and more streamlined for users with a reported improvement on its way. The report comes from Esper’s Mishaal Rahman, with the upcoming feature being coined as “Self-Share”. Self-Share will allow users to share files between their own devices logged into the same Google account much easier by not needing to approve the share.
This will make the feature similar to Apple’s AirDrop for devices using the same Apple ID. Cause as of the moment when sharing files between personal devices under the same Google account, you would have to approve the share. This new feature skips that extra step cause for most users, sharing files and images between your own devices should be as seamless as possible.
Rahman stated that Self-Share has not been rolled out just yet but is in the latest version of Google Play Service. Furthermore, do note that this is no official announcement but could just be coming out soon during Google I/O 2022.
So what do you think of this neat little improvement to Nearby Share? Do you think this will help users get into using Nearby Share more? Let us know your thoughts about it down in the comments!
