During the launch of the Cherry Mobile Flare X , we also got to play around with the Cubix Cube, the new wallet-friendly octa-core from Cherry Mobile which will be available starting tomorrow noon at Lazada for Php4,490.
The ample space sandwiching the Cubix Cube’s 5-inch On-Cell display are occupied by the usual set of components – a trio of capacitive buttons at the bottom and the handset’s earpiece and a 5-megapixel secondary camera at the top.
The placement of the other external components also follow the traditional layout with the power button and volume rocker on the right flank with the microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack perched at the top.
Unlike what the press photos might suggest, the Cubix Cube actually have cheap-feeling removable back cover with a glossy finish (for the black model at least) which obviously attracts smudges and fingerprint marks like there’s no tomorrow.
The back cover hides the handset’s 2,000mAh battery pack from plain sight, along with the tiny slots for a pair of SIM cards (1x Standard + 1x MicroSIM) and a microSD card. There are two circular cutouts on the upper left portion of the casing to make way for the slightly-bulging 13-megapixel rear camera and its accompanying LED flash.
Holding the phone for the first time, we easily picked up on a hint of Apple-inspired design theme on the Cubix Cube with its flat back panel with white pinstripe and smooth rounded edges.
Overall though, CM’s new budget smartphone looks pretty decent, albeit the handset’s glossy back cover was a bit of a turn off. The physical buttons are ergonomically placed on the right side and have a good tactile feedback when pressed.
