Honor 10 Hands-On, First Impressions

Honor recently announced their newest flagship smartphone in the country, the Honor 10, sporting a 5.84-inch screen with a notch, Kirin 970 chipset, 4GB RAM, and 128GB storage. Check out our initial thoughts on the device below.

The Honor 10 is a premium device thanks to its aluminum frame with a glass front and back. The design actually reminds us of the Huawei P20. It 10 has a 5.84-inch 19:9 Full HD+ IPS display which equates to 432ppi, narrow bezels, and an 86% screen-to-body ratio. Also found here are the 24MP front camera along with the call speaker and sensors. As you may have noticed, it has that notch design which is the trend nowadays. If you’re not fond of it, you have the option to hide it by going inside Settings.

The Honor 10 doesn’t have capacitive buttons and uses on-screen navigation keys but what is interesting is the smartphone’s fingerprint sensor which is located under the glass which can recognize wet fingers.

Looking at the right side of the device are volume rocker and power/lock buttons which are soft but not that much elevated.

The left side houses the SIM tray that accommodates two nano SIMs but disappointingly doesn’t have a microSD card slot.

Looking at the bottom, there’s the 3.5mm audio port, USB Type-C slot, main microphone, and loudspeakers. We appreciate that Honor kept the audio port since some of the flagship smartphones that have been released recently have abandoned this feature.

At the top is the IR blaster which is handy for controlling IR-based appliances at home, while beside it is a noise-canceling microphone for calls.

Looking at the back, there’s 16MP and 24MP dual rear cameras with LED flash. The cameras have AI capabilities which can detect 500+ scenarios in 22 different categories in real-time.

In the hands, the Honor 10 feels light and slim. We didn’t have any issues handling it with one hand and has a decent grip despite being covered in glass. However, it’s a fingerprint and smudge magnet so you might want to put a jelly case on this one.

The Honor 10 is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor, the same chipset that is powering the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, 4GB RAM, 128GB internal storage. It runs on EMUI 8.1 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and has a 3,400mAh battery with Supercharge technology.

Get the V10 instead for a cheaper price. No on-screen fingerprint scanner and glass back, 16MP front cam but with micro SD card. Same rear cam.
