A successor to last year’s Honor 7S, the Honor 8S has found its way into the country. We were able to get our hands on this entry-level device that possess a 5.71-inch screen 2GB RAM, 32GB storage capacity, all powered by Helio A22. Check it out.
The Honor 8S comes with a 5.71-inch display. At the top of the display, there’s a circular notch where the 5MP selfie shooter is located, while the rest of the smartphone’s display is surrounded by bezels. They’re slightly thick, particularly at the chin, as the Honor logo is printed across it.
Over the rear, the 8S’s plastic-constructed body takes on what Honor calls a “dual-texture” design. The smaller partition where the 13MP camera is has a smooth, matte texture to it, while the larger partition has micro-patterns on it. Our unit here has the blue colorway but the 8S also has two other color options, namely Gold and Black. The 8S feels pretty solid and sturdy when gripped, and is comfortable to hold.
On the right, we get the volume rocker and the power buttons. Their placement is convenient as it’s pretty easy to reach them even with just a hand. They’re also pretty clicky, too.
Meanwhile, situated on the left side is the Dual SIM tray and a dedicated micro SD card slot. The 8S’s 32GB base storage can be expanded up to 512GB should the user choose to do so.
Sitting all alone at the top is the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Last but not least, at the bottom of the device are the call speaker, micro USB charging port, and the speaker grille. We think that the placement of the speaker is rather unfortunate, specifically for right-handed people, as it’s located where the smartphone would rest against your palm.
The Honor 8S comes with an Helio A22 quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB of storage, a battery of 3,020mAh, and has face recognition as its security measure. It runs on EMUI 9, based on Android 9 Pie. It’s an entry-level configuration so it’s designed to handle basic tasks and light apps. We’re going to take this for a full review so stay tuned.
Priced at PHP 5,490, the Honor 8S will be officially available for purchase in the country beginning on July 19.
