HTC One X unboxed, in the flesh

This little white box greeted me when I arrived home this afternoon. I knew HTC Philippines was sending us something but I didn’t not expect it will arrive looking unconspicuously as this. Check out our unboxing photos of HTC One X after the break.

The box of the HTC One X is relatively small and conservative considering the size of the phone. It’s almost the same size as the iPhone 4S considering that one is just 3.5″.

The handset’s pristine white color is evident right out of the box — the angelic-white, polycabonate body against a huge, curved and dark edge-to-edge display gives it that gorgeous, heavenly look.

The HTC One line-up (minus the One S) was officially launched in the Philippines a couple of weeks ago. It’s also been sold in stores since then (some with the Beats earphones, some with just a stock HTC earphones).

You can read about our first impression of the One X here.

One of the things that got me interested with the One X is the built-in camera. Some of the earlier photos that pitted it against the Nokia 808 Pureview showed great promise. Historically, HTC handsets don’t carry really great rear cameras so the One X should change that perception.

I’ve ran a number of early benchmarks on the handset and so far the numbers are very impressive. Will not share it until the final review as I am seeing some more firmware updates that are coming up which might change the performance afterwards.

The combination of Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0 UI can still be a bit confusing if you’re coming from Gingerbread (or even from the stock ICS alone) but a few hours of tinkering might help to get you more comfortable with the user interface.

So far, the HTC One X has one of the most impressive specs in the local market (at least on paper).

HTC One X specs:
4.7″ Super LCD 2 display @ 720×1280 pixels @ 312ppi
1.5GHz quad-core NVidia Tegra 3 processor
1GB RAM
32GB internal storage
HSPA+ 21Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
NFC
Bluetooth 3.0
8MP autofocus rear camera, 1080p
1.3MP front-facing camera, 720p
GPS w/ aGPS support
1800mAh Li-Polymer battery
Android 4.0 ICS
134.4 x 68.9 x 8.9mm

The suggested retail price of the One X is Php32,990USD 562INR 47,657EUR 535CNY 4,094 — almost the same price range as the previous HT Sensation line-up from last year. Since this is the first and only quad-core Android smartphone available locally, we could not make any relative comparison against other handsets.

Interestingly, the Asus Transformer Prime tablet which runs the same processor is also priced at Php32,995USD 562INR 47,665EUR 536CNY 4,095.

More on this once we get acquainted with the One X and share with you our full review. I’m not sure if HTC Philippines will also allow us to do that scary drop test they showed during the launch but we’d be glad if they said yes.

  1. Wooooww! eto pinagpipilian ko eh. Onex X, Motorola Razr, Iphone or yung Sony Xperia S. 32k? hmmm Mahal nyan considering kimstore is offering it at 35k but hey it have a solo beats with it i think its lower w/o the beats. hmmm.. I saw it in memoxpress the other day i fell inlove. magkatabi pa sila ng sensation XL. hmm. Got to think about it.

    • As far as I know HTC devices from now on, including flagships, will not come with Beats(TM) headphones na. So I am thinking na it’s either that store just opted to include some of their stocks with the unit. :)

    • Dude, go with the 4S na lang. Worth it. The ultimate all-in-one device. The OS, music player, audio quality, the flare…name it.

You might want to wait for the S3 too.

As with the Xperia S and Droid Razr–if you want better performance plus a great camera, go with the Xperia S. If you want a head-turner/killer looks, you definitely have to go with the Razr. Though disappointing ang camera niya.

      Hope I helped :)

Nahirapan din ako mag-decide before. But I chose iPhone 4S. :)

    • Sabagay uu nga madami fake ngaun nun. Hmmm.. Motorola kasi ang prob lang is after sales support. Its actually between this or iphone 4s or perhaps the new iphone. Got my iphone stolen last 2009. Sa Sept pa naman end ng contract ko so sigurp ill wait first. I’m also keeping a watchful eye on SGIII. hmmm.. thanks for the advice!

    • Depende na sayo yan bro. kahit Ng iphone 4s may mga shortcomings. so dapat iconsider mo ang overall experience, remember iphone has a relatively small screen. btw i saw a one x in multiply just sold for 28k. pwede na diba?

    • @bryan, sa september mag end ang contract mo? by then, tipong 2 months na lang release na ng iphone 5. so it will probably be better to hold off. who knows what apple is cooking with their next iphone? they were conservative with the 4s. i’m using a 4s and i have no regrets. when the next iteration comes out, baka mag upgrade na din ako agad.

  2. i’ll pass, better buy a nikon dslr camera with the same price ^_^

  3. I got mine last weekend. Liking the speed and screen. Batt life maxes out around 15hrs for me with 3G on always-on. Coming from the Sensation on ICS, the rerouted controls can get confusing. Some shortcuts I’m used with have been moved hehe

  5. My very first HTC was HD2. Since then nagka trauma ako sa HTC! This one seems to be a redeemer though.

    • Bakit ka naman na-trauma? I had the HD2 as well, and also previous HTC phones before then. Never ako nagka-problema. I’m using HTC Sensation right now for the simple reason that I wanted to upgrade to dual-core. Baka hindi ka lang marunong gumamit, bro?

    • ^ If you’ve ever used a Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, & iPad2, it goes without saying how horrendous an HD2 experience is!

  6. 26.9k lang to sa widget city

    • wise decision.. :D

  9. Nokia N808 na lang antayin ko sa May.

  10. I’d better buy Asus Transformer Prime. Although wala syang 3G capabilities (And I believe di na raw sila magrerelease ng ganon), I can use it for my studies and intensive gaming because of its speedy processor and sophisticated graphics… =)
