Just been informed by an authorized HTC phone reseller that the HTC Wildfire is already available in the Philippines with a selling price of Php15,500.
The HTC Wildfire is often referred to as the HTC Desire Mini for similarities in design but with slightly lower specs.
HTC Wildfire specs:
Qualcomm MSM 7225 528MHz processor
3.2″ TFT display @ 240×320 pixels
384MB RAM, 512MB ROM
up to 32GB via microSD
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Bluetooth 2.1 w/ A2DP
3G/HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
5MP autofocus camera w/ LED flash
FM Radio with RDS
GPS w/ aGPS support
1300mAh Li-Ion battery
Actually the specs are very much similar to that of the HTC Hero, except for the bump in the on-board RAM (384MB vs. 288MB), which is probably why the Wildfire comes with Android 2.1 Eclair and the Hero is still at version 1.5. With the current price of the HTC Hero in the upwards of Php20k+, I think the HTC Wildfire with a price of Php15,500 will toss it off the store shelves.

hi sir ask q lang kung magkakaroon pa ba ng update ang wildfire?
Abe Olandres says:
Here’s the store selling it for Php15,500 — topelectronics.multiply.com
gj says:
I can’t recall the exact price of wildfire at HTC SM North, it’s around Php17,690 – Php17,700. I thought the street price is Php15,500…
jp says:
I’ve been waiting for this phone as well, saw it priced at p16k cash, p17k card sa park square.
read a lot of reviews about this phone, and here’s the cons i remember.
resolution. poor web text and videos.
web page loading speed (it was compared side by side sa desire, sobrang layo ng loading time). crashes on web browsing.
network issue? (review wasn’t sure if it was due to the carrier or the phone – dropped calls and lagged messages regardless kahit malakas ung signal. more on messages, hours bago dumating and a lot of message sending failed.
“doesn’t do HTC sense justice”. can’t expound, just a comment from a user.
here’s another phone i’ve been waiting for.

@John Ray Cabrera: HTC designs its phones so that you can only landscape in one direction.. counter clockwise (track button on the right), and they don’t do “upside down”… It’s a design decision they made that I wish they would change.
@Patrickross: I feel your pain.. I wish HTC released updates sooner, but unfortunately with the HTC Sense UI (which is why people get HTC over other similarly spec’d phones)they have lots more extra work to do before they can release an update (testing and debugging the customizations and all).
We can at least take heart that it’s better than Samsung, who rather than update a phone, would much prefer to release a new model for you to buy.
My consistent suggestion for those who ask, if you want bleeding edge, front-of-the-line updates you should get a Nexus One. But if you just want a nice phone, get what “speaks to you” and be happy with it for what it is.

samsung spica is capacitive but not multi-touch…

prosopagnosia says:
sir abe… can you do a review of this phone??
and lastly can you do a comparison review about the HTC Wildfire , Samsung Spica and the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 in the future??
thank you!
Miguel says:
@manong I believe the Samsung Spica is capacitive, and HVGA 320×480, at a lower price.
Can someone compare Spica vs Wildfire?
patrickross says:
@Abe: HTC Hero is now running on Android 2.1 (Eclair). If it was shipped with 1.6, an OTA upgrade was already made available. My Hero has been on 2.1 for a while.
Oh, and for everyone: HTC is known to release updates later than most manufacturers. At this time, not all Hero users were provided with the 2.1 OTA Upgrade. I think Orang (UK) users are still having problems.

green says:
What are the pre-installed languages for HTC Wildfire, or HTC phones in general that are sold here in the Philippines? Is Chinese language included?
manong says:
would this be the cheapest capacitive multi-touch android in the market?
still no video call camera though…
i think 15k is really the sweet spot IMHO… just wait for december!
John Ray Cabrera says:
software issues that i have seen:
1) landscape mode doesn’t function all the time
2) USB connection error
hardware letdown:
1) not AMOLED
2) smaller screen size
3) QVGA resolution
Mike says:
If you can’t install apps HVGA on this, is this phone a good buy?
Wala bang workaround sa limitation sa screen?
Abe Olandres says:
@beef – there were reports there was an upgrade available only in Taiwan but couldn’t verify it.
dongv says:
anyone got this in local store already? how much exact price? is it better than Spica?
beef says:
@Abe I think the HTC Hero got an Eclair upgrade recently, so it’s on android 2.1 now as well. It’s not gonna get Froyo though.. so that 288MB of memory will hold it back… unless you root it and get some sort of ROM that has A2SD.
wow! says:
I’m so buying this one. Sa hubby ko nalang yung X6. Does anyone confirm na may Wildfire na sa SM North?
Ceal says:
Told you it was gonna be cheaper than the initially rumored 300 Euro price tag :-D

Teknisyan says:
Nice… a mini version. But this one is more appealing than the HERO plus it’s using Droid 2.1. Does that mean it can be upgraded to Froyo?
poche says:
malabo ata evo4 sa pinas. ang alam ko hindi yun gsm.
wait nio na lang un desire hd version bago matapos taon. although baka hindi din gsm un.
gj says:
Does anyone know if wildfire is already available at HTC shop SM North?
simplynice93 says:
Meron nagbebenta ng HTC phones sa 3rd floor ng Robinsons Ermita but I need to check kung meron na silang Wildfire. I’ll followup kung meron.
Arvee says:
Yes, I saw the HTC store at SM Annex too. They’re under Memoxpress’ management, so I assume all Memoxpress branches at SM and Ayala malls sell HTC phones too.
prosopagnosia says:
@wow! – merong HTC shop sa SM north.. dun sa annex 3rd floor ata
Arvee says:
@Miguel I heard there’s already some ported version of some (well, not some since there’s a lot) apps that won’t work on QVGA or Small screens like GMail and iLock.
Actually most HVGA apps can run on QVGA phones too, pero it’s the Android Market that won’t let the users see those apps on the list.
I’ve been eyeing for this one, pero di ko alam 384MB lang RAM niya. Not enough to run PSX4droid :)
I guess I’m down again to N1 and Desire.
prosopagnosia says:
thank you sir abe for posting this.. i’ve been waiting for it for a while now after asking you about it on facebook..
the QVGA is a setback for android users because of some apps not applicable on a QVGA display..
but still im drooling over this phone.. ^_^
guyrony says:
Although some ranted out that QVGA just doesn’t do justice for an Android phone. And at 3.2″?
But the price is reasonable though!
Let’s just hope it gets upgraded to Froyo so the customers don’t feel that their latest device does have an outdated software.
:)
Miguel says:
lower price is probably due to 320×240 (QVGA) screen resolution.
how are you guys with X10 Mini and other QVGAers?
some apps in the Android Market won’t run on this resolution.
mckshootstoo says:
@abeolandres hey, just curious, is it possible for an iPhone 3G with v 4.0.1 to be jailbreaked using JailbreakMe? I’m having problems.
wow! says:
Wow ang mura! San ba makakabili ng unit nyan dito? May HTC store na ba sa Pinas?
Jon says:
WOW. Just wow. Finally, an affordable Android phone from HTC. This would really sell well, I’m sure. I just hope this would be getting Froyo soon too.
Justine says:
mas mura yung Wildfire?
Mas maganda din ang specs kesa sa Hero?
Why mas mahal ang Hero?
I WANT A HERO!
donronX says:
@abeolandres any word on when the evo 4 is going to be sold here?
donronX says:
@abeolandres sayang. the reviews hyped the evo so much, naglaway ako. i’m using the galaxy s now.
abeolandres says:
@donronX yung HTC HD2 puede daw install ng Android 2.2 Froyo. Parang Evo na rin dating nya.
donronX says:
@abeolandres astig.
donronX says:
@abeolandres i love the camera and video, there are some nice apps as well. but have you encountered the usb connection error?
abeolandres says:
@donronX hmmm nope. mine works just fine.
justinecapili says:
@abeolandres Sir, ano po mas better? Hero or Wildfire?
abeolandres says:
@justinecapili Wildfire, specs-wise.
justinecapili says:
@abeolandres Thanks. may advantage po ba ang hero over Wildfire?
donronX says:
@abeolandres weird. a number of people have the same prob as mine, as per forums. hopefully 2.2 will fix it.
