Huawei Nova 5i Pro First Impressions

A few weeks ago, Huawei launched in China one of the newest members of the Nova family that packs a 6.26-inch hole-punch display, Kirin 810 chipset, and quad-rear cameras – the Nova 5i Pro. We were able to get our hands on one, so read on to find out our initial thoughts about it.

One of the most distinctive features of the Nova 5i Pro is its display. Like the Nova 5i, it has a punch hole screen to house the 32MP front camera. The 6.26-inch screen is still immersive due to the slim bezels, punchy colors, and Full HD+ resolution, which equates to a pixel density of 412ppi. It also has a screen protector pre-installed to protect it from scratches.

Placed above the screen is the earpiece. Then at the top is the secondary microphone.

On the right, we have the volume and power/lock buttons. While on the left is the hybrid SIM tray.

Found at the bottom are the loudspeaker, main microphone, USB Type-C port, and the 3.5mm audio port.

At the back are four cameras consisting of the 48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth cameras. Also found here are the LED flash and fingerprint scanner.

If the design looks familiar, that is because it resembles the Mate 20. It even shares the color and diagonal pattern. The Nova 5i Pro is easy to grip and feels premium thanks to the metallic frame and glass panels at the front and rear.

Powering the Nova 5i Pro is the new HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset with a Mali-G52 MP6 GPU, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, and EMUI 9.1.1 based on Android 9 Pie. Providing juice is a large 4,000mAh battery that supports 10V/2A fast charging.
