Huawei has officially released the nova 8 and nova 8i here in the Philippines. For this hands-on, we’re going to check out the Nova 8i. It boasts a large 6.67-inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset, quad rear cameras, and 4,300mAh battery with support for 66W Huawei SuperCharge. Read our initial thoughts below.
At first glance, the nova 8i looks similar to the Mate 30 as it has a similar camera design. The unit we have is the Starry Black color, but it’s also available in the Moonlight Silver and Interstellar Blue colorways. The back panel looks like glass but it’s actually made out of tough polycarbonate material. In the hand, the phone feels solid and but comfortable to hold thanks to its curved edges.
Also here at the back, we find the quad-rear camera setup composed of a 64MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor, along with the LED flash.
Flipping to its front, we get a 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS Huawei Edgeless display with a pill-shaped cutout in the upper-left corner housing the 16MP selfie camera. The bezels are very slim, even on the chin.
The left side is bare, while located on the right are its volume rocker and the power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The buttons are clicky, and the fingerprint scanner works pretty well.
Up top are its 3.5mm headphone jack, secondary microphone, and earpiece.
Moving over to the bottom, we get a loudspeaker, main microphone, USB Type-C port, and dual-nano SIM tray.
The nova 8i is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB storage. On the software front, you get EMUI 11 based on Android 10. For the battery, it has a 4,300mAh cell with support for 66W Huawei SuperCharge.
The Huawei nova 8i is set to officially launch in the country this month. It is priced at PHP 13,999 (8GB + 128GB) and is available in Moonlight Silver, Interstellar Blue, Starry Black, and Blush Gold. Stay tuned for our full review.
