Table of Contents
Starting with the display, the Huawei P40 is equipped with a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display, while the Samsung Galaxy S20, comes with a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. While both devices have almost the same screen size, the S20 has the option of running at either Quad HD+ at 60Hz or Full HD+ at 120Hz.
Both devices are powered with the latest 5G flagship chipset from HiSilicon and Exynos, but the US variant of the S20 comes with a Snapdragon 865 chipset. As for memory configurations, the Huawei P40 is armed with up to 8GB of RAM, while the S20 is armed with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.0. Both devices’ memory can be expanded, with the P40 being compatible with up to a 256GB NM card and the S20 is compatible with up to a 1TB MicroSD card.
Both handsets have a set of triple cameras situated on the rear. Based on the pixel count, the P40 wins with its 50MP UltraVision main camera and 16MP ultra-wide. However, the S20 comes with a higher 64MP telephoto camera. The trend continues with the front camera, with the P40’s dual 32MP and IR sensor setup trumping the S20’s single 10MP front shooter.
Connectivity options, namely dual-SIM capabilities, 4G LTE, 5G, NFC, and GPS, are the same for both devices. While for Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, the P40 comes with Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6+, while the S20 comes with Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 6. In terms of biometrics, both devices have face unlock, although they use different fingerprint scanners. The P40 employs an in-display scanner, while the Galaxy S20 comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
Android 10 runs on both smartphones, but of course, the two of them have their respective skins laid on top of it. The Huawei P40 sports EMUI 10.1 and the Samsung Galaxy S20 has Samsung One UI 2. What sets these two devices apart, however, is that the P40 does not have Google Mobile Services, and instead has Huawei Mobile Services.
In terms of battery, the P40 comes with a 3,800mAh battery with 22.5W Huawei SuperCharge support, while the S20 comes with a 4,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0.
Here are the prices of each device:
The additional PHP 13k price premium on the S20 offers a better display, battery, expandable storage, and Google Mobile Services. Additionally, if you can get the US variant of the S20, you will benefit from the performance from the Snapdragon 865. However, if you have a lower budget, into a higher camera setup for photography and find the IR blaster a plus, the Huawei P40 is your choice.
