Huawei’s latest flagship handset is scheduled to be released in the Philippines this May 2023, so in the meantime, the China-exclusive release along with the Mate X3 offers an early glimpse of what this new smartphone can deliver.
The P60 Pro comes in three different back-panel designs and 4 colors. The one that we used during our Huawei trip to China was the Feather Sand Black which has a slight sand-polished texture that does not attract any fingerprints or smudges. There’s also a purple version with the same polish. The Emerald Green variant is polished and glossy glass-like material.
Then, there’s this limited edition Rococo White variant that looks like a Mother-of-Pearl with its random layered texture. In order to achieve this, they added natural mineral powder to the back panel and allowed it to settle until it coats the entire panel. This process is un-repeatable so each time it is done, the final result is unique. In a way, each P60 Pro Rococo White is completely different and unique to each other.
This is also the first time that Hauwei’s Kunlun Glass is used in the P-series (it was first introduced with the Huawei Mate 50 Pro). Huawei also said the Kunlun Glass on the P60 Pro is better but would not elaborate further on this (nor would even call it Kunlun Glasss 2).
The P60 Pro features a 6.67-inch quad-curve (compared to the micro-curved display of the P50 Pro) LTPO screen, giving you a smooth grip and immersive view. This is also slightly bigger than the P50 Pro with its 6.6-inch display size but you will not notice the difference.
Screen resolution is almost unchanged at 2700 x 1220 pixels and the adaptive refresh rate automatically changes from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the app requirement making it more power efficient. The slightly curved edges can be distracting when you’re playing a game and make accidental touches.
Huawei made a special arrangement with Qualcomm to manufacture a 4G Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This is paired with 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512Gb of UFS 4.0 internal storage.
As expected, Huawei is putting as lot of stock in their camera technology and the XMAGE photography or visual styles that users can choose from (Original, Vivid, and Bright).
This is headlined by a 48-megapixel main camera with variable aperture that ranges from f/4 all the way up to a wide f/1.4. The second camera is a 13-megapixel ultrawide with f/2.2 aperture and another telephoto camera with a 48-megapixel sensor, f/2.1 and a 3.5x optical zoom.
So far, the initial photos we took with the camera were impressive and stunning. The zoom macro shots are equally great as well. We’ve always liked the night shots using the P-series and the P60 Pro was always on point when it comes to night photography as shown in the samples we got here.
Here’s a clip of our tour of the Huawei Ox Horn Campus in China using the P60 Pro in 4K.
We’ll post our full review of the Huawei P60 Pro once we get a local retail unit. We’re expecting the P60 Pro to be launched/released in the Philippines sometime next month so stay tuned for it.
