However, the Y6s has a slightly higher pixel resolution at 1560 x 720, compared to the Redmi 8’s 1520 x 720. The Y6s also has a slightly brighter panel at 283ppi, while the Redmi 8 has 270ppi. As with the majority of entry-level devices, both handsets sport slim bezels and a thick chin. The Y6s and the Redmi 8 also come with drop notches that house their respective front cameras.

When it comes to processors, the Y6s and the Redmi 8 have a MediaTek Helio P35 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 439, respectively. Both processors are octa-core and are capable of light to moderate tasks such a social media browsing, productivity, media watching, and the like. For RAM, the Y6s has a sole offering at 3GB, while the Redmi 8 has a base of 3GB and a higher option at 4GB. Storage-wise, the Redmi 8 also gives users two options: 32GB and 64GB, in contrast to the Y6s’ lone offer of 64GB storage. Despite the differences in those options, the two handsets do come with expandable storage up to 512GB with the use of a microSD card.

Delving into the cameras of the two devices, the Redmi 8 trumps in number as it comes equipped with a 12MP + 2MP dual-rear camera setup. On the other hand, the Y6s has a single 13MP camera on its rear. Both smartphones have an 8MP front camera that can be found in the respective drop notches of their displays. We’ve yet to have the Y6s and the Redmi 8 side by side, though, to compare the quality of the images they produce.

As for extra features, the Y6s and the Redmi 8 both have a 3.5mm headphone jack for all the wired headphones users out there. The handsets also have rear-mounted fingerprint scanners and face unlock for biometrics.

Battery-wise, the Redmi 8’s massive 5,000mAh capacity overpowers the 3,020mAh cell of the Y6s. The Redmi 8 also supports 18W fast charging, while the Y6s has no form of fast charging capability. For charging ports, the Redmi 8 is keeping up with the times by having as USB-C port. On the other hand, the Y6s is stuck in the past with its micro USB port. Android 9 Pie runs on both handsets, modified with EMUI for Y6s and MIUI for the Redmi 8.

  1. The main draw for this huawei is the weight.
    Y6s: 150 grams
    Redmi 8: 188 grams

That makes the Y6s almost as light as an iPhone 8 which is 148 grams, except instead of a 4.7 inch screen it has 6.09 inches. If you take into account the screen area it has over a 50% larger screen than an iPhone for the virtually the same weight.
