Huawei has just launched a new member of its Y series of smartphones, the Huawei Y7p. Check out this affordable smartphone powered by Kirin 710F!
The Huawei Y7p sports a 6.39-inch display with a 1560 x 720 resolution. Slim bezels surround the panel, except for the chin part that’s thicker than the rest. Noticeably, instead of a drop notch, the Y7p has a hole-punch front camera, and Huawei dubs this panel as a “Punch FullView Display.” Thanks to the lack of notch and slim bezels, the Y7p has a 90.15% screen-to-body ratio.
Inside the hole-punch cutout resides an 8MP shooter.
Turning it over the rear, what we have here is the Y7p in the color of Aurora Blue. The back of the device is incredibly pleasing to look at, as it has a 2.5D effect, display a metallic-like gradient color when it catches the light. It’s also available in another color called Midnight Black. At first glance, one might think that the Y7p’s rear is made out of glass, but it’s a polycarbonate material. It does have a slight premium feel to it, though.
Situated on the upper left corner of the rear is the device’s triple camera setup, composed of a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle, and a 2MP depth camera. The camera bump is slightly raised from the rear, and therefore setting the Y7p on a flat surface will make it wobble. One can also find the circular fingerprint scanner on the upper center of the back.
On the left sits the dual SIM tray and the dedicated microSD card slot to expand the Y7p up to 512GB.
The volume rocker and the power button are both located on the right side. They’re tactile, clicky, and the placement is just right.
Up top, there’s a secondary microphone.
Residing at the bottom of the device are the primary microphone, loudspeaker, 3.5mm audio jack, and, sadly, an old micro USB port.
Powering up the Y7p is a Kirin 710F processor, paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. We ran the Y7p through a couple of benchmarks, and here are the results:
Basic tasks such as navigation, swiping through apps, social media browsing, and the like were pretty smooth and didn’t have any issues. We’ll let you know more about the performance and gaming capabilities once we take the device for a complete review.
We also took several sample shots with the Y7p’s cameras. Photos produced by the rear camera have an ample amount of details and sharpness to them. The colors have a slightly muted tone to them, especially the ones that were taken in wide-angle.
As for selfies, the images produced by the Y7p’s front camera have a slight amount of noise to them. Similar to the photos done by the rear camera, the front camera’s photos look slightly desaturated.
Under the hood, the Y7p is also armed with a 4,000mAh battery that has 10W charging support. For software, the Y7p runs on EMUI 9.1, based on Android 9 Pie. It should be worth mentioning that the Y7p doesn’t have any Google Services installed in it.
Instead, the Y7p comes pre-installed with Huawei Mobile Services, including AppGallery, which is pretty much Huawei’s version of the Google Play Store. If you’re looking for apps such as YouTube, Facebook, and more, you’d need to install them on your own.
The Huawei Y7p is priced at PHP 9,990 and is available for pre-orders via Lazada and Shopee starting February 17 to 27, while offline pre-orders are available starting February 22 to 27. Customers who pre-order will also receive a free Huawei CM 510 Bluetooth speakers, 500 Huawei points, 50GB worth of Cloud Storage for two months, and a PHP 1k voucher for the Freebuds 3. The first 50 customers will also get a free powerbank worth PHP 1,499 for free. Huawei will also be giving 50% off for the first 10 customers who avail of the Freebuds 3.
